Coolant smell

The last several rides I have been on, I have been noticing a coolant smell when I come to a stop. The Reservoir is about 1/8'' below the full line. There is no drip or sign of dried coolant anywhere. I added a couple of ounces of coolant a couple of months ago. That was the first time I had to add any in over 10,000 miles. Any ideas?

Chief, Have you ever removed your tank and checked all of your hose clamps for tightness? If not, you need to. I pulled my tank to change my coolant and found most of the hose clamps barely tight. There was one of the bigger hoses between the jugs with a very slight leak. There was a small buildup of dried antifreeze at the end of the hose. I never had to add coolant in the 19,000 miles I had on the Nomad when I changed the coolant and never noticed any evidence of a leak until I pulled the tank. I too had picked up a very slight smell of coolant after stopping the engine following a long ride. I tightened all of the loose clamps and have never smelled coolant since. It doesn't take more than a very slight seepage for you to pick up the unmistakeable scent of evaporating coolant.

Thanks Cajun, I will have to do that. I have never had the tank off.

I had some dry coolant on the hoses under the tank as well near the rad cap, thats probably where it is. It can also be one of the two pipes that goes into the cylinder head, they have an O ring that sometimes leaks, check that as well.
