Help with headlight bucket wiring 1500

I'm installing passing lamps, speakers with amp for my mp3 player & a usb charger, The usb charger is going to be wired direct to the battery but can someone tell me what wire in the headlight bucket is best to tap into to run the relays for the passing lamps & amp for the speakers? It'd be nice to hit the one that only allows power after it's started like the headlight, is it ok to tap into that wire for both relays? Also, is there an accessory power wire in the headlight bucket? It's a 2004 500fi Thanks

I'm pretty sure there is not an acces. plug in the headlight of an '04. You will find one under the tank and under the seat. If I'm wrong about this, just wait a minute or two and someone will post you the correct answer.

You might want to consider installing an accessory fuse block. You can wire it so it is switched (some have switched/non-switched circuits) and connect all your accessories there. Each device will have its own dedicated, fused circuit, it simplifies troubleshooting and makes for a nice, clean installation.

Help with headlight bucket wiring 1500

I have an 03 and I do not have an extra in my headlight...just under tank and seat. I have a cigarette lighter then bought a USB charger that plugs into the lighter so I can charge whatever. It also plugs into a wall. Pretty handy charger...you can charge two USB at a time.

I bought it at Wal Mart.

01 to 04 have 2 wires as acc, and 2 grounds for acc I guess.

One pair is white/blue + and black/yellow gnd inder the seat and the next pair under the tank.

BOTH pair come off the same fuse, and that circuit can just do 10 amps..

If your passing lamps are seal beam 30 watts or so each bulb you can run them off that acc wire as main power and use lo beam as the relay trip.

IF the passing lamps are 55 watts each then you can't.

Then you need to either run the power feed from the battery and switch that feed or run a a relay also from the battery as the main feed, and can use the lo beam to trip the relay.

OR do what Cj said and get a fuse box added in..

I have no idea what a USB charger draws, but I bet not much.

In the head light bucket is a blue with yellow strip wire, that is the kicker for the relay you will be installing for the lights. Run a wire back to the battery for your 12V power with a inline fuse holder.
This set-up will make your lights come on when the engine starts.

Here is a great link to explain it http://www.gadgetjq.com/wiredrivinglights.htm

You can tap off the 12V lead once you get it to the headlight bucket for you Mp3 and usb items.

Yup gadjet has one way, of many good ways to wire in passing lamps..

There are ways to run a add on fuse box, a relay, no fuse box, no relay, to have passing lamps On to match what ever a give state says. or not.

Many states seem clear on passing lamps with lo beam only, other states say hi beam only and some states don't care at all.

I am not sure but I heard some state doesn't like 3 lamps on at all... beats me why.

Mine are wored to be on any time i want, no engine, no keys, ignition off and locked.

This way if the main lamp fails I have lights, and for parking I can have lights, or set up a camp late in night, where other people are already asleep..

One set of passing lamps on my boke are 55 watts each in white light, and the other set are yellow fog lamps.

Running the main, and both sets is about all the bike can do... It still charges, but not very well.

A wild guess with no facts and no math seems to be the bike uses apx 10 amps to just run.

The main beam on hi come just under that, maybe 8 amps.

The fog lights are arond 6 something amps, and the white at 55 watts each are around 9 amps.

About that is all the alt can make.. I don't often run both sets of passing lamps at the same time, but in some moosey havens I use and want all the light I can get.

Having that meter running to monitor juice helps me a lot.

Thanks, used the blue/yellow wire to trip relays & ran power from the battery. Nice to have tunes on the bike, will be even nicer to ride when it's warm enough!

Here's a clear picture that shows a way to wire the driving lights:
