Am I going nuts, or what?

I have a ... crazy question to ask to those who run a CT on their bike.
Has your gas millage changed since you got away from the bike tire?

The reason I'm asking, believe it or not, Ive gotten a lot more millage to a tank then I did with the stock tires.
Normally, I never get more then 100 - 110 miles to a tank, but now the last 2 times I've gotten over 130 miles to a tank. In fact, on the ride where my drive shaft was going bad I got 141 miles between fill ups !!!

No, I'm not crazy..and the riding didn't change, in fact there was a lot of curves just like the Dragon, mountains, highways and all around normal weekend riding.

The mechanic I use said the CT has a lot less drag then the BK has.
Am I the only one!???
Am I getting senile??

Mike, My mileage didn't drop at all with the CT. In fact, I got my best mpg (42.7) on a tank a few weeks ago riding 2 up on a trip to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. No hills or twisty roads but I've done the same trip and didn't get 40 mpg. I'm going to back off a little on my #1 pot on the TFI to see if I can improve the mileage a little more. If you're senile, I guess you have some Louisiana company.

Is it possible the size of the tire has anything to do with it? I am running stock tires until they wear out then not sure what I will go with.

I have run different size tires on cars and that tends to change your mileage. A larger or smaller tire will change the miles your speedometer shows. The best thing you can do to verify your mileage is to get on a stretch of highway and ride using the mile markers to see if you speedometer is still accurate. Bikes speedometers are off from the factory. When you are doing 70 mph you are actually only going about 65. When I have checked my bike my speedometer will gain about a tenth of a mile for every 10 to 12 miles actually ridden.

I think our friend in Alabama has nailed it. Your mileage didn't increase, your odometer is turning faster.

The tire is the same exact size of what I replaced it with, and the odometer is off of the front tire, and I also use the GPS all the time.

I do notice there is a defendant difference in the rolling of the bike...
a LOT smoother!

I didn't know the 1999 speedo was driven off the front wheel. Cut me some slack.

A taller tire will get you better MPG's no matter what.... Since this is the same size, I wonder..

Are you sure it is the same size?

I went from the stock brick to the Dunlop 195/60 R 16 SP 5000 and found it dropped my MPG's from 44/46 to 40/42. I blamed than on more traction.

When I changed by stock brick to a Dunlop radial D 251 in the stock size for the 1600, I could feel the bike roll easier.

On my stolen 01 injected 1500 with a rear metz (German made) one size larger I was getting out to 138 miles before my yellow warning light came to first flicker on.

This year I only allowed that warning lamp to come on once, and the speedo read 186 miles to first flicker. This is a 06 1600.

Yes, the front tire is stock.
There is a definite difference on how easy it now rolls.
Ever pushing it into the shop is a lot easier.

Wompus, who installed your tire for you? I am leaning heavily toward the DS on my next change.
