Sea Foam, Who Uses It And When?

Was just wondering if anyone uses Sea Foam in their Nomad. If anyone uses it do you use it in the gas, in the oil? It says on the can it can be used in the gas and also in the oil. I have never added anything to my gas or to my oil and was curious. If you have used it, how often do you use it? Thanks in advance.

Gene,

I try to use it every several tanks of fuel, primarily to keep the injectors clean but there are some (mostly on VROC) that think that it does all sorts of miraculous things. I'm currently seeing if it helps with increased pinging that I am experiencing.

Ells, how much do you use to a tank of gas? I picked up a can today at Advance Auto. It says it helps with pinging, which I haven't noticed with my bike. It also is supposed to clean the injectors and I have never added anything to clean mine. It also says it can be used in the oil, curious about that one. Any help anyone can offer will be appreciated. I have never used Sea Foam and actually had never heard of it until I saw it mentioned here on the KawaNOW site. Thanks.

I usually use about 1/3 can per full tank of gas, the label gives a large range of apps. I'd be careful using it with oil, most recommendations I've see suggest adding just before draining. I know it makes the engine run a little smoother but not sure why. Seems that most FIs need soom cleaner at some point.

That was my thought exactly on using in the oil. I thought maybe a couple hundred miles or so before an oil change to help clean it out, then change the oil and filter. Anyone else have thoughts on using it in the oil?

The directions on the label say 1 ounce per gallon of fuel. That's how much I use. Never tried it in the oil and probably won't.

Thanks CJ, how often do you use it in your gas tank? Why would you never use it in the crankcase?

I use "every so often", no particular schedule - just when I think it needs it. Maybe 3-4 times a year.

I'm just not keen on putting anything other than oil in my crankcase.

i use it in the gas starting in the fall.seafoam also acts like stabil
so that the gas will not degrade over time while the bike sits for
extended periods over the winter months.

I've had a can siting around for a couple years, anyone know if this stuff goes bad?

I use it in both the gas tank a few times a year, and in the oil once a year. I can notice a difference in how the bike runs when I add it to the gas, Also my mileage goes back up if I havn't done it in a while along with cleaning the throttle body. If your idle has dropped to low, from where it was, thats a good indicator that you should add some to the tank and clean the throttle body.

Gas tank every 3-5 tanks.

As far as oil, I read that someone puts some in for that short ride to warm up the engine when you want to change the oil.

Other uses:

Restore hair
Make love sessions last longer
Flavor coffee
Lower cholesterol
Clean silverware, etc.

I put it in (1 ounce per gallon of fuel) every oil change, and since my bike usually sits for 2 or 3 months in the winter, I make sure the tanks are full and have Sea Foam when that time of year rolls around.
Ells is right though, while I think it's a great product, there are some who swear it cures whatever ails you...coughs, colds, sores, holes, fits, farts, and freckles! :)

I put an once per gallon every oil change. It's easy to keep up with that way. I don't put it in the crank case mainly 'cause I've been cautioned against it. Beside that I use the best oil on the market, Mobile 1,

so no worries there.
