burnt towel on pipes

I was using the quick detailer after a ride and let the microfiber towel touch one of the hot pipes. I now have a 2 inch long orange stripe on the pipe. Anyone know a way to remove it? Thanks in advance, I am sure someone will know. I read the forum almost every night and appreciate all the info.

If nothing else works as a last resort I use very fine steel wool (moistened), and only light pressure. I know this sounds harsh but it takes off just about anything that gets baked onto exhaust pipes and doesn't leave scratch marks.

You can also use "goof-off". Remember - the mark was left while the pipes were HOT, it will probably have to come off when the pipes are hot. Use a cotton towel so that it doesn't melt.

Try the goof off but I would try a spot with the pipes cold first just to see. Then you could try it with them hot if it didn't work. The oven cleaner might also work, just try a small spot and follow the directions on the can. Or get a 0000 steel wool pad at your hardware store. Might even use some type of oil on the pad to keep it moist and possibly help with the removal of the stain. I would definitely try all with the pipes cold first. The hotter it gets, seems the worse it will make it. If all else fails with the pipes cold then you could try it with them hot. Hope some of our advice works for you.

I have had that happen. Use oven EZ off first, than goof off if those don't get it all use on cold pipes 0000 steel wool make sure it is 0000 not 000 or 00 or 0. Then soak the pad in WD 40 and rub, rub rub, not hard just rub rub rub and it will come off.

I use a coin called Nickel, with oven cleaner. The oven cleaner eats into the syn cloth, and the Nickel is softer than chrome, Steel wool isn't!!!!

The oven cleaner also acts as a lube.. Do this cold or you will burn a stain right into the chromed pipe cover!

Make sure that nickel is clean, do not scrap very hard, let the edge of the coin do the work.

The best of the best chemical remover is called Luster lace.. Unfortunatley this is a order item from there on line stores. It is for me anyway.

This is something like Never Dull, but 100 times better.

You can get some for the next time, but do not ridr the bike as it is now or you will burn into the chrome deeper.

Under that chrome is a layer of nickel anyway....

In past bikes I have used the oven cleaner and then wrapped the spot in Saran Wrap over night. The next day it just hosed right off.

I've had luck using "Blue Job" to remove small spots burned on the pipes. If you're not familiar with Blue Job, it's a very fine powder chrome cleaner that you can find in most motorcycle shops.

I know that the oven cleaner and the steelwool will both work, however, be VERY careful with the oven cleaner, that is some nasty sh*t. Not only will it remove paint but if you get it on your skin it will give you a nice burn, trust me i know...LOL
