2009 nomad front axle

I have removed several motorcycle front axles in my life but I have never encountered one like this. I cannot get this one to budge. Yes I did remove the pinch bolts and I have used a bar extension but I still cannot get the axle to break loose. What am I doing wrong? I have tried clockwise and counter clockwise. The factory must have used a jack hammer to put this axle in. Any advise? I have a flat tire and I really did not want to take my bike to the dealer so his guys could get it dirty again like it was when I took delivery a week ago this past Friday. I have had to put air in it several time since I picked it up and they do know about it. I'll be d---- if I'm going to pay for a new tire.

That axle is only supposed to be torqued to 80 ft-lbs. Obviously, someone really cranked it down.

You might want to try putting some penetrating oil on the threaded end and let it soak in for a couple of hours.

By the way, counter clock wise is the correct direction to remove the axle.

I have a 2006 Nomad that requires a very large (22 mm?) Allen wrench. My Allen wrench has a 3/8" square drive and I had to put an extension on an extension bar to loosen it. I might have rapped it with a hammer too. They must have guerillas working in the factory.

I finally got my axle off and took the tire/wheel to the dealer to get the flat repaired. Well guess what, it was not a problem with the tire. It turns out the the wheel has a fracture in it by one of the spokes next to the hub. First alloy wheel I have ever had a problem with and the dealer said it was the first he had seen. Kawasaki is overnighting one to the dealer by tomorrow so I should be set by tomorrow night. I might add that it took my 25 inch breaker bar to get the axle loose. Oh well. At least the wheel did not shatter on me while I was riding. That would have been ugly.

I got my new wheel back today and just finished mounting it and I am good to go. Very quick service and all was done with a smile. Shawnee Cycle Plaza in Shawnee, Kansas. Good people.

I am glad everything worked out good for you. It would have been worse than ugly if that wheel had come apart while you were riding down the highway. I had a crack in a wheel on a Plymouth Tourismo a few years back. It came apart while going about 70 or so down the interstate. I managed to hold the car in the road. The tire and all of the wheel except where the lug nuts were came off. It went across the highway behind me, in front of my wife driving behind me and went a good 100 yards or so. Thankfully this didn't happen to you.
