car tire mileage check

I'm getting ready to go "Darkside" and wanted to see if anyone has worn out their car tire yet, so I can get an idea of longevity.
I will probably go with the Dunlop Sport SP5000- 195/60/R16 unless someone has a better choice. I don't want to be any lower than the stock M/C tire.
anybody get to 10,000 miles yet?

I think it was yesterday this same topic came up, but I'll be dammned if I can recall where. The basic answer is no one here has yet worn a ct off the rear yet.... So no one knows about how long it will last. I run the ct you just mentioned and at least 4 other guys run that tire too on this board.

We can tell you lots of things about the ride and handeling but none of can tell you how long it might last..

I just know I am gonna get this wrong. One guy I think going by Pablo has 14,000 and say his tire shows no wear.... it might be a car tire dies of old age after 6 years in use with legal tread and sun rotted side walls in stead.

Just might be 40,000 miles won't wear a CT off the bike, and that could mean I will die an old man no longer able to walk and stil;l ride with the same rear tire I got right now. and still the tire won't be dead if all you count is tread depth..

Then there are other guys with LT (light truck tires) who will have no choice but to pass on heirloom tires to their grand kids to wear out probably. If tires are still something in use then, maybe for antiques day parades..

My tire hasn't worn 1/32 of an inch in 5k. I figure about 60+K it should last......

I been running Avon Cobra radial with Dunlop SP5000 and really like it.

In fact, new Cobra front arrive yesterday. Present Avon front has just under 12,000 on it.

DK, arent many people getting 20K on the front,? Or are you just cautious about the front or does the soft Cobra wear out faster? Thx

Doc, I'm not "overly" cautious about tread on the front. This Avon Cobra is , by far, the most miles I have ever got out of a front tire.

I believe its the different roads we ride. I don't do interstate hwys and around here its all curves, hills and mountains. When I see riders getting 15-20K out of tires, and look at where they live, I see FL or Midwest plains primarily.
I don't know of anybody around here that gets even close to that kind of mileage.

Another example; I have never got 10K out of a rear tire. Usually change at 8-9,000. Changed the rear brickstone at 5,050 miles, not entirely because of wear but cupping. And I check air pressure usually before every ride.
That's one reason I went CT. I've been going through 3 rear tires every two years.
Getting expensive.

dragon57, to means we are the same age.... Unless that 57 means something else.

I didn't think to stick Lincoln in the treads so i don't know what i lost so far. I just don't care till the wear bars show, and I'll know it then... if i live so long...

I am just wandering what the mileage rating is for the CT. The dealer should know how many miles it should get. Just a thought.
