Overheated in more ways than one...PLEASE READ
Is it the dog days of summer or the moon tugging at our brains?
No doubt, many of you have noticed that posts have gotten a little heated on certain subjects on the forum as of late. The thread about Dan's ticket is one such area and the other is in the Garage area where poking fun has caused some sore feelings. Many of you are fairly new members here on the KawaNOW Forum and so you may not really know how I feel about disagreements on the forum. The older members know, but I thought I'd reinterate for the sake of trying to clear things up. I take the environment you log into to gain knowledge about your Nomad VERY SERIOUSLY. I pride myself on providing the best forum that I can, to help you in all areas of the Nomad. It's been that way since day one and will continue to be that way until the end arrives for all of us. And, I think that's one reason why we've grown so much over the past two years. Be rest assured that whatever issue or person get's in the way of that goal will be dealt with quickly. I have no problem with banning anyone from the forum if they are bent on causing problems. I've done it before and I'm sure I'll do it again. But, keep in mind that I will always do my best to provide you a safe and informative area to log into. I think the main thing we need to practice here is that anyone that frequents this forum CANNOT take things seriously or personally. That is the golden rule here at KawaNOW. I allow everyone the opportunity to express their feelings about a subject. I allow kidding and some levity to be portayed in posts. And, I allow thread hijacking. This is where the subject of a thread might change temporarily. But, I will not allow negative posts that are meant to cause harm or trouble for the whole forum. All of us have to understand that we may have the right to express our feelings, but it's HOW those feelings are portrayed in a post that makes the difference. Bottom line.....Think about what you are going to say before saying it and don't take things personal. And relax.....believe it or not, you are among friends. Trip

Utah, I'll go beyond that and say a forum is only as good as it's members. If your over sensitive about the discussion your going to have a problem. I enjoy lively debate. When an individual wants to be a little bit of a smart butt I'm up to the task. I get hammered all the time by todd, swb, OP, TC and thourghly enjoy theirs and all the banter. My skin is more than just thick, its concrete thick.
Trip will attest that I have never PM'd him because so-and-so are being mean to me! I walk in my own shoes because I'm a big boy now (shuddup todd ![]() Take Dan's lively thread! One of our members actually quit over it! Trip's forum is for all those that want to hang out! Very few rules imposed by him. Don't like the subject? Don't participate in it,,,,,period! No hard feelings. I don't look at half the threads because I have no interest in them.

Trip, your policies here are more than fair. I've been on forums where the moderators are like the hall monitors in a 21st century world. They use their positions to show people that they are in charge and probably to satisfy deep-seated issues with being bullied in grade school.
People say things from behind a keyboard that they wouldn't dare say in person. Everyone has to remember that and take what's said with a grain of salt. This forum is like a foot and Trip is the big toe. Where the big toe goes, so goes the foot.

I don't like the political direction of one of the boards, so I checked to see if the members wanted politics in it's own forum. Most liked it where it was, and if I don't like it, nobody is forcing me to read it. I don't go, it was simple.
I still like talking about other things with the same people who like politics. There will be some topics that don't resonate well with your personality style, so don't open those threads. The moderators here do a great job, though it isn't needed often, of making sure that other members aren't attacked personally. So even though I don't like some of the subject matter on the board, and choose not to read those posts, it's a great board of good helpful people with different opinions. It'll take a lot more than a thread about a jerk therapist to get me to leave! :) I like it here, even with all the gun toting, right wing crazies ![]() |

Trip, thx for the reminder ...helps keep things on a positive note. I particularily appreciate the reminder to not take things seriously or personally. And Darksider--I agree.
I knew when I signed up---that this gathering of fellow Nomadiacs was a great place to hang a shingle. The words of wisdom and support shown by fellow members attests to the overall character and spirit of KawaNOW. With Age comes wisdom.........OK I'm 56.......I'm sure to pay for that comment |

Anyone quitting a forum just might be a bit to close to what it is he doesn't like in the first place.
No dog I know likes getting his nose rubbed in his own mess.

I Have not been on this forum very long, but one thing I must say is how mature and respectful everyone is of others here. Great place to hang out and Trip you and the other moderators do a great job. I have been on other forums, where locked threads due to arguments mud slinging, etc happen on a regular basis. Not a fun place to be.
I am still trying to get to know people on here, so put me in my place if needs be, but one thing I would like to point out is: This is a place for discussion and I think there will and should be differences of opinions. One thing to remember is: Because we are not talking face to face the tone or even the meaning of a post can be interpreted differently. Much like a book in that ten different people read it and you can get ten different variations of what the author was really trying to convey.

mere country lodgic....
Now I know no cops will like what I have to say about what is their job, but I am not the one who makes it that way. They are. They do it by not weeding out the crooked cops amoung them, because blowing the whisel might just get you out of your job too. I know that, just like I know a fat 350lbs cop can't run or hide behind a sapling. Real cops come to living history (not on the job) and I know some of these guys are good cops, but they will not weed out the bad cops either. And some of them are just bad cops (also not on the job). They will tell you about how funny it is to them to bust someone by planting weed on someone, and other things they do to create a victim.. I am the same face to face with these guys as I would be with you if I could meet you face to face. The Virginia SWAT team in my mountains didn't like me one bit from the begining to their end.. i was a long hair hippy to them but I was also the care taker charging a 3 dollar fee for the nights they stayed at Gray Knob on my mountians. (My mtns are every one in NH) gray Know is a RMC hut, RMC is a sister to AMC, and I was a part time winter care taker, paid) I was the 'Authority' not them and they didn't like it one bit. All I got was long hair this, long hair that and complaints about the weather. Hell it was a nice warm day by standards in the White Mnts in Feburary, my cup of tea! The first day it was 55 degrees and raining. On that day I made a few comments on all the gear being black which is confusing, when you need to find any gear at all. I have to work to collect the fee and that's just part of the job. Another part was to make sure these duffasses stayed safe. They got all wet! I refused to start a fire, as no care taker ever does that unless there is a emergency and getting wet isn't one. I told them they could go get dead and down and burn that if they wished but no care taker wood would be forth coming... more grumbling... Day 2 it turned colder.... +10 not so very cold. Down at Pinkham Notch the weather guys radioed me to say it would be -40 to -60 the next day and I warned these guys to get their stuff dry in +10... Naw long hair don't know nuthin.. Well day 3 brought a mild -40 with only 80 mph winds, and these guys accted like little girls and abandoned all their gear to me, telling me I had to pack it down and ship it back to Virginia.. I told em right up plain, you packed it in, and you WILL PACK it OUT. Nope, they abandoned it, and ran from the weather.. I play up there and don't even stay inside Gray Knob unless I am getting paid to stay inside. I don't even use a tent since thar's no bugs at -40 and it can't rain. I told these guys I would indeed give all their gear away for free to any takers who were interested and I did. I have no obligation to ship anything to any place ever unless I say I will. I am fair, more fair than many. I would not have let any of these guys die, but that is where the line was for them those 3 days. I don't care what a man does to get money. If he has to be an ass to do it then so be it, but if he is an ass to me I give it right back. I don't want power, or authority on my own, and I don't want a big ego to go around and prove stuff. If I get any respect it is because i EARN it, as I don't believe you can simply demand it. You can demand courtisy, but not respect which is always earned. Country lodgic has a place.. it is simple , it is direct... I try to live by the code and rules I made for me, and most of the time a good part of that isn't making choices for others, or taking choices for others, but telling others what I see that are their choices instead. What one does then is up to him.. What I do when any man with any kind of authority over me which I don't believe is very realistic, is close my eye and imagine him sitting on the throne.. pretty quick I decide what I will and what I won't tollerate. I don't care if he is the Queen of Sheba.. I size the guy up for what I think he is made of, and if he can stand the broadside i will deliver. When I am in the wrong I just say so. Little ol me has blown the winds of of a lotta hyped up sails in my time. Doctors Lawyers and all sorts of folks who get used to authority because they think they know something. I got boots that have been in a lot of bad places too, so I know when a bluff has been called.
