1500 FI running bad/missing

1500 FI started missing on the front cylinder soon after a fillup.

About 15 miles after filling up, bike starts coughing, sputtering...pulled over in a parking lot to check it out. Missing on the front cylinder.

I suspect bad gas, but some little odd tidbits.

It runs "ok", mostly normal, on the side stand but when I pull it up level it immediately starts sputtering and missing on the front jug.

I can also let it idle on the side stand and press down on the front right hand side of the tank and the idle smooths out. Strange behavior, possible short under the tank somewhere?

Other odd occurrence was a blown fan fuse at the same time.

Trailered it home, siphoned 99% of the gas out, put about 1 gallon of good gas in along with some seafoam and it acts the same.

Any ideas on this?

Fuel filter clogged?

I think it's fuel related but the blown fuse is odd.

Just a suggestion...it might be beneficial to mention what year bike and how many miles on it.

Have you had the tank off or up lately? Could be a pinched off fuel line?
There's not too much that you can do with these fuel filters besides take them out and spray them clean with some carb cleaner. If you do go into the tank to investigate then I would spray clean the pickup screen as well. I would also look at the fuel lines for damage or some sort of debris. I had part of an o-ring from the quick disconnect fule line stuck in my fuel injector causing problems. I could throttle mine to about half throttle or so and anything past that would fall apart real bad.
Did you replace the fan fuse and it blew right away again? If not then I think it is a seperate issue and maybe not an issue at all.

Check the wiring harness on the lh side of the bike against the frame rail and rear rocker cover. You probably have a wire or wires worn through and grounding. They are known for rubbing through in this area and causing problems as you describe. You will probably have to lift the tank up to get a good look and cable tie the harness.

I'll check that wiring harness out. Haven't pulled the tank yet. I saw another thread with pics of the harness and wires being worn through.

And the fuse hasn't blown again.

First time I've had the tank loose was today.

Pulled the bolt. Started the bike. Missing.

Lifted the back end of the tank. Idle smoothed out. Runs fine.

Traced it to a crimped fuel line.

Got it lined out, so to speak, tightened everything down. Runs fine.

Crazy, out of the blue stuff.....

Good you found it.... I hope you looked over the harness where it turns down over cly #2 at the rear.

There is a nylon locking tie there, which has a tab you can open it with, IF it is still stock. I found that out right after cutting mine off!

I checked the harness thoroughly....it was fine. That was during the "tracing" part. Took a bit longer than I described.
