buzzind sound

I have noticed I get a buzzing/spinning sound coming from in front and below me (that's all I can tell). It starts around 60 mph, goes away around 70. I noticed while on the road this weekend the speedo needle started fluctuating between 55 and 60, as if the speedometer cable is malfunctioning. I have had a similar problem in the past on other bikes, which was corrected by replacing the speedo cable...
But alas, the nomi is an electronic speedo. Help, I/m confused, anyone else ever had a similar problem?

Many times it's the radiator screen that buzzes and other folks have found rpm related buzzes from things inside the headlight. It may be the right rpms at that speed range.

These are usually easy to find if you sit in neutral and increase the revs slowly while listening for buzzes. Have a friend place his/her hand on the radiator screen or cup the headlight when you hear the buzz.

What year bike? My best guess is the3 speed sender is fluky, or you have a bad connection some where. The speed sencor in on the left side seated inside the chrome side cover for the engine/tranny. In there it is far back and high, and has 3 wires going to it.

The book has a fluky test and gives no real spec for one test, and the other test is as bad.

These both take some 'special' tool a meter I guess you could buy, but I wouldn't.

I would do std testing with a ohm meter, and then try to see if I could get a guy here to test a known good unit.

There is a on line manual somewhere on this site you can down load. The book I am looking in is for a 05-06 1600 and the page is 16-93.

Hey Triguy, I was getting a buzzing sound from the chrome trim wrapped around the top of the fork tubes. This won't affect the speedo, but I thought I'd throw it out there.
I found it by finding that critical speed and staying there while feeling around for the vibration.
Best of luck

Thanks for the suggestions. I just can't help thinking the speedo and the noise are related, but maybe I'm (well that's what everybody says) crazy! The speedo stopped entirely for a while today. I guess I'll just order a new sending unit and hopefully that will take care of, at least, the speedo. I may well still have the noise, if so, I'll just have to go hunting. I've already packed the headlight bezel as well as found/fixed several other vibrations. I hate any noise that isn't the motor working or the pipes barking!

I had my speedo doing the exact same thing as you describe, so i bought a new sensor and it did not fix the problem. So then I removed the tank and found some wires that was rubbing on the frame, patched and tywraped it all up and works just fine. and as far as the noise my chrome radiator cover makes some noise also, just crank radio up louder, no all i did is tighten bolts up. Hope this helps.

I have one that just developed. Might be the relay in the headlight bucket, might be a wire that I ran for my ipod, might be a wire for the tfi I installed. Who knows. I know it isn't the radiator. It is a resonant buzz that is only at certain rpms. I am leaning toward the relay in the headlight bucket or maybe some chrome trim somewhere, it does have that tinny sound to it. Good luck to you on your search and I will let you know if I have any luck.
