tire suggestions!

Hello fellow nomads I am leaving on wed. morning for americade bike rally in lake george new york and i am in need of new rubber. At this rally they have a huge vendors area with vendors of all kinds that do installations right on the spot. I was wondering what the consensus was on this site about what tires to purchase? Avon, Metzler ........... I know the bridgstones are cupping bad but this is my first big cruiser ( i had a vulcan classic 805 prior) I am going to assume that the heavier bikes are harder on tires so i am looking for some expert advise or opinions on which tires best suit the nomad. I live in eastern ontario canada so we don't have many days of extreme heat riding maybe 2 or 3 weeks of weather in the upper 90's mostly mid 70's to 80's. But as i look outside this evening i think i need a pontoon boat instead freeking rain!!! and 40's in june. What is the Al Gore talking about global warming my a**

Anything is better than the Stones. I just put on Dunlop's. Ridden 250 miles so far on them and love them.

I wasn't impressed with the Metzelers. I now have an Avon Cobra on the rear and it's great. I'll be replacing my ME880 up front with a Dunlop Elite 3 this weekend.

If I was you I'd start out try the Metzelers 880. With the dunlop3 you have only the oversized to install 160/80/16. With the newer 1600 they have alot more options than we do on a 1500.
If you don't like the Metz. then try another tire.

I have the Elite 3 on mine and really like it. I have a new rear tire that will be installed June 9th. This will be the second Elite 3 on the rear for me.

I just installed a new Dunlop on the front and its a lot better than the Metzeler that it replaced. A lot of the ME880's cause the bike to wobble after a few miles of wear.

Ah, that's what I needed to hear! I'll be putting my Elite 3 on the front this weekend, replacing my worn out ME880.

I use the Dunlop D404. I got them at Dennis Kirk for $83. I usually get 10000-11000 out of one on the rear so I just can't justify twice the price for another tire that gets about the same mileage. IMO. I may try the car tire next time though.

What is wrong with the Bridgestone tire? On my last set I got 14,000+ miles on my rear tire & 21,000+ on the front. The rear was replaced at 7,000 by the previous owner. Niether tire was down to the wear bars, but they were very close. One thing I am anal about is checking tire pressure every week. For value & haven't heard of other tire with the same longeventy. 90% of my riding is on California freeways at 70-80 mph...-Rich
