Cost of Insurance

I got a fl yer in the mail today from AMA and McGraw Insurance Co.

I compared MaG. to my GEICO policy (Apple to Apple)

GEICO - $203

MaG - $505

I carry the following coverage

Bodily Injury $100,000/300,000

Property Damage - $50,000

Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury - $25,000

Comp (100 deductible)

Collision (100 deductible)

Accessory coverage - $2,000

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

A quote from Progressive with all the above PLUS Accessory Coverage of $5,000 was $259.000

What are you paying for coverage?

So far as I know, insurance company's have formula for figuring their rates off of your credit report. I've been with Dairyland for years, 20 or more. $172.00 a year for a '01. When I check each year with other companies, their quotes are all over the place, and none of them ever come close to what I have for the price I pay. Just saying...

I'm paying more than that.

Insurance is more expensive in the big city, Bill. Insurance is very expensive in the Phoenix area.

When I moved from Chandler to Mesa (a distance of < 20 mi), it went up about $300/year. When I moved back to Chandler, it went back down.

I forgot to add, both Prograssive and GEICO have roadside assistance coverage. And, very good coverage at that.

I carry Progressive and pay by the month. Costs me roughly $40 per month. I have full coverage. Not sure what my limits are. My policy is in the saddlebag.

Bike-line.com (Markel American) has given me the best prices and I have quoted quite a few others - but that varies from person to person. Checking out what works best in your situation is neccessary.

I have the same coverage w/ Progressive and it's $255 due in about a week. They dropped the price from $276 from last year. That was the cheapest price for me that I could find.

I'd like to mention that if you belong to the AMA (and if not, you should) and sign up for their automatic annual renewal, you get their roadside assistance plan for free, which not only covers your bike, but any vehicle you're in - even if somebody else owns it.
