You know... I have seen and heard more and more about Ural's lately than ever before. What is with that?

There were two used ones for sale here recently in the paper -- private sale. I have read repeated blogs about them, and even went on a couple sites where there are complete "nut-cases" over them (enthusiasts).

I kind-of like the concept of a old-bike with a few new pieces of technology -- although I understand they are still way behind the times with technology -- but that is part of what I like about them. The price is a bit steep (new) for what you get, but from some of the sites and pictures, these things are meant to be ridden year-round, and are fairly tough. They are not "highway" bikes, but perfect for that back-roads stroll; if you know what I mean.

Anyway... not sure why I am hearing more and more about them.

The seat is better and part of it is the riding position. With the legs supporting some of the weight and the riding position straight up, it takes some pressure off the tailbone. People that get the Russell seat for these say they can do 750-1000 miles a day without issues. That's pretty good.

Right now I am making minor adjustments like raising the seat, adjusting the shifter, and we'll see if I can dial it in. I can see why CHP uses these.

Great to hear you summer went well Don. Don't know what you're doing to get your friends to get bikes... I can't seem to those of mine that don't have one to get one! Kind-of irratates me None the less... that's great that your posse is growing. It is a lot of fun when you have friends that are riding and you can get together with them.

What kind-of bikes are they buying? Always interested to see what people are buying these days.

Regarding the National... that's a "must-do"!!!!! I made my reservations and I know several others have also. So... you'll see my post on the other thread here about the "plans in the making". We are looking to pass through Columbus as that looks like the best option. We would look to get hotels there or near there and try to make the rest of the ride the next day. But check-out the other thread started for that purpose on the NC board.

Otherwise... we'll talk later; and hope we all have a mild winter!

I gathered that from some of the sites and blogs I have read. They are kind-of appealing to me... but what's the appeal to others with these things? Again... they aren't exactly cheap for what you get.

Rode yesterday Sat. Nov.20th. did not ride a long distance the temp was about 45. It was a crisp day but it did feel good. Riding season is never over for me. If the temp is above 25 & no snow or moisture on the pavement I will ride. The temp today is 67 here in Columbus, In sunshine with a little wind several bikes on the road today.

I did 120 miles last Sunday and rode to work a couple times during the week. I rode to a breakfast this morning and 23˚ is about as cold as I would like it. Time to get some electric clothes.

Snow here now also. Our first one of the year. Just under 6-inches and heavy.

Ponch... you might as well be switching to a snowmobile when it gets that cold.

When I was eating at breakfast, a guy walks up and asks if that was my BMW. I said yes. He said he rides Harley's but always gets a kick out of BMW riders because they ride in all weather. I explained the heated seat and grips...Anyway, that was funny.

I don't know about other parts of the country; but with HD headquarters only an hour away... you'll see a fair number of riders in the winter around here on HD's that have all the heated accessories.

My bike can have heated grips and seat for not too much money. I understand it isn't too much of a problem to install these, and the price isn't too bad either. I have the outlet already available for heated clothing on the bike now.

But to be honest, after a certain temp (usually 50 degrees) I am done for the year. I just don't enjoy it as much then -- especially not knowing the conditions of the roads around here. You can come upon ice quickly around here; and I don't want to be on two-wheels when hitting some ice.

Having said that... I see BMW riders the most in the dead of winter. I think those that own them must have something wrong with themselves!!!!
