Probably doesn't work on my long filter. I am worried that if I hand tighten the filter, it might wiggle itself loose and falls off during a ride.

Oil filter cap wrench?

Hand tight, then check make sure it doesn't leak after the engine has run about 30 seconds and its good to go. Off course, "hand tight" varies between people, put it on until it stops when the gasket makes contact and then another 1/2 turn should do it, which someone else already mentioned here I believe. I was always told to put a couple drops of oil on the gasket before putting it on. That's the way all twist on oil filters have worked for at least 35 years.

I use a cap wrench, but I have had to ping the flats so they fit tighter.

Oil filter cap wrench?

I use an end cap wrench too, but this oil change I switched to the Super-tech filter. Out of curosity I tried the cap wrench just to see if it would fit, and it won't. The Super-tech filter is longer than OEM. So I went to Harbor Freight and bought their #36778-3VGA wrench, looks like a set of overgrown pliers with bent jaws. It was on sale for like $4.00. That should do the trick if it won't remove by hand next time. ;)

Here's an idea. I couldn't get the filter off Cindy's Honda. They must of put it on with an air wrench or something.
Anyway, it would not budge even with the strap wrench I use on my bike.
I took 2 hose clamps and screwed them together. Sliped it over the end of the filter and tightened it till it would not tighten any more. Then tapped on the screw head with a hammer till the filter came loose.
I'm such a clever fella

Hand tight on, and remove by hand also. Never a leak.

That was clever TC ;), but like the others, I only tighten hand tight, so it's easy to get off.

Oil filter cap wrench?

I have a pair of 16" Channellock pliers that I have for stubborn oil filters. I usually use them to squeeze pistons back into brake calipers.

Oil filter cap wrench?

I always install my filter hand tight. If I can't turn it by hand when removing it for replacement, I use a 12" pipe wrench to break it loose enough to spin it off by hand. I always seem to burn the backside of my thumb on the goat's belly when I grab it and try to break it loose by hand when it's tight.

Hand tighten until it's snug.

For whatever reason I had the same thought as you, and it took about two hours to get the filter off after I'd LIGHTLY torqued it down with the cap wrench. You do NOT wanna go there, trust me.
