Ride to Arches (UT) in May - Suggestions?
Well, I've got a friend from Denver I am riding with out there, and we have tentatively set the date for the middle of May to do this. I am excited! Thanks for all of the input, it will make the route planning much easier - and I will post pics (some hopefully as good as Trip's) when we get back.

Ride to Arches (UT) in May - Suggestions?
Been though the region by car a couple times but not yet on the bike. Wife and I want to do it one of these days, maybe this summer. It is every bit as awesome (appropriate use of the term) as the pic here depict.
Perryco, Guessing maybe if you live east of Longmont you might be new to the area?? If so, it might be a little hard to believe after the kind of weather were having now, buy May can still little dicey weather wise getting there or back. Don't want to discourage you because there is a good chance it will be fantastic conditions instead, just might want to have a backup plan, not too many viable alternate routes that wouldn't have the same problems. BTW, it you haven't check over on the regional board for a ride, maybe very small, forming up fo this Sunday right in your backyard. |

Ells,
Thanks for the input - the weather is definitely the wild card (when isn't it?). I've been out here (CO) 8 years, so I'm getting familiar with the lack of stability in weather. Thanks for the invite on the ride. I'm keeping my eye on the regional board and see that you guys go out often. I won't be able to make this week, but will check back and try the next one. |

I've been through Moab several time by bike and car. It is my absolute favorite place I've ever been to. You ought to plan a day or two off the bike and on foot. There are some amazing sights that can't be seen by the road.

I think I will be going through most of these places on my way back to South Carolina via New Mexico. It might take longer than expected with all the side trips.

OK - So I have a date scheduled to go. Now we're also thinking about meeting at Flaming Gorge, then down to Moab and Canyonlands. May 15-17. Can't wait!

If your going to Arches, be sure to check out dead horse point. There are a couple 'magnificent' lookouts. You can overlook canyonlands national park. Arches turn off is on the east side of the highway and dead horse point is on the west side of the highway.
