Baby got new shoes

I dont take my bike to a shop for that very reason. I dont need scuffs on the seat, bags, tank, or worse by some mechanic that maybe doesnt give a hoot. They get my wheels only, and I watch. I take the wheels out one at a time and make two trips to the dealer. I buy my tires there so he makes money off me one way or another, and I am okay with that. I would not be okay if my bike was damaged while at the shop.

Baby got new shoes

Took my bike apart myself. Brought new tires and Old rims/tires to a local guy, (friend of a friend).
Picked them up three days later. $125.!!!!!
I should have asked. He is a small "HARLEY" shop. Maybe I pissed him off.
I figure he spent 20 minutes. He looked me dead in the face and said "hey that's less than I normally charge". I am Not too happy.
Gonna take me a couple days to chill out.

I remove the wheels/tires myself, carry them 1 1/2 miles down the road to a small Harley parts shop, and he only charges me $10 each to remove the old ones, mount the new ones, and speed balance them on a machine very similar to the ones in a car tire shop. I think I get a pretty good deal on the changes.

50$ a tire is average to remove, mount, balance and install! 125$ to mount only is WAY high ...
Guess he doesnt like Metric bikes LOL.
I use a small local shop,, all brands,, he used to Race bikes and is anal about safty. and is the owner and only wrench!,, I been buying tires from him since 05.. evey year I get at least 1 Metzler, I was doing 17 k miles a year.. He charges me 10$ a tire less then the Catalog price for the tire alone,,, and Thats tire removed, Balanced and reinstalled,, Drive shaft greased as well.pluse a safty inspection.... so Im happy.... now have 2 bike going to him for anything I cannt fix, plus famil members now use him,,, Guess Im real lucky he likes metric bikes :)..Rich

Yeah
A little hard here to find a good shop. About a dozen "Harley Certified" shops here that claim to work on anything but give attitude when you own metric, or there is the local crotch rocket shops. Then there is always the two local Kawasaki dealers (ouch). This is why I chose to wrench myself.
Next time I will mount my own and check out the dynabeads.
Thanks for letting me vent.
Mark
