NEED HELP Leaking fuel

on my 03 you do have to use the key to lock it back, then just a good smack. I always fill to the metal plate and just a little above so I don't think this and over fill.
ride safe

mncruiser: You filled it to the right level. I'm pretty sure the key has to be in the gas cap for it to close - just press it down and it should lock by itself.

NEED HELP Leaking fuel

If I fill mine too full it will leak when I'm going down the road, not a good feeling when its hot out and you look down to see fuel running towards you!!!

OK, after some talking and research, I gotta believe that all this leaking is a function of the little plastic valve in the gas cap getting gummed up or jus plain being stuck. Go read the "Whistle Stop" page on Gadget's site, and it'l show you how to fix the cap.

I'm confused: "If the cap still whistles cut off another round. Excessive trimming will no longer hold the valve in place and could cause a fuel leak."

I have a fuel leak already

NEED HELP Leaking fuel

I took my gas cap apart and didn't see anything unusual. I do have 2 holes on the tank under the cap in the 4 o'clock poistion. 1 gets plugged when the cap closes and the other one is always open. May be a california model only thing. I think mines leaking from that other hole.

It won't leak there. Trust me it leaks when gas gets sloshed up the filler neck and hits the rubber gasket which is under too much pressure (bad venting) and the gas oozes all over your tank.

Brads right, it leaks from the sloshing if its a little to full. Mine does the whistling thing also so maybe cutting that spring some would help.
