Bike for the wife.

Thanks for the responses and input.
We didn't buy yet. We did look at a Vulcan 500 though. I also found 2 real nice Vulcan Classic 800s on Ebay, but she isn't sure about it. She doesn't want something too big & heavy.
She basically wants to putt along for max 75 mile trip every once & a while. ( she says that now...once she gets comfy on her own bike though...) So a smaller and cheaper bike ( VN 500 ) may be the way we need to look.
Plus, ScootWorks has some trick stuff for the 500 Vulcan. Don't see one tricked out around every corner.
She loves riding on the Nomad and isn't really look for her own full time bike.
Again, Thanks for the replies everyone. When we buy, I'll post pics!!

Bike for the wife.

My wife wanted to learn to ride in case something happened to me on a trip. I found a cheap 2006 Chinese Lifan 200 street bike on Ebay. The dealer selling it was about a mile from where I work. I bought it new in a box for $860 and didn't have to pay any shipping. It took about 2 hours to put it together. She got her learners permit and we have been riding in the afternoons on the roads around home with me following her. We finally had to put some gas in it and it got 132 mpg! It had 423 miles on it and it took 3.2 gallons to fill it up. Not bad for the price. When she gets a little more experience I'll get her a bigger Kawasaki. A lot of people want to buy the Lifan once they found out the gas mileage. So far we haven't had any problems with it but I wouldn't try to run over 50 mph long. We keep it about 45 mph most of the time. It's a good learner bike.

[quote:896cyqau]I've had a few through the years.... 550, 750 CB900 Custom... Shadow ACE... i wouldn't go w the vlx 600.... The Shadow Spirit 750 is nice and light... 496 Dry... check it out at least before you buy rfl.. she'll out grow that 600 real quick!
Thought you might think that as you just got the good deal on your 750. $500 less than rflnomad and a 150cc boost in displacement. I know a gal who rides a shadow 750 spirit and she rides that bike all over creation (500 mile trips) and never has a complaint about it's function or abilities. I'd bet if Donna does well in a MSF course that the 750 would be a great starting point, and possibly all she'd ever want.

My first little ride on the shadow spirit 750....I stopped after 109 miles to gas up.... took 1.9 gals! That's incredible mileage!!
