Temp Light and Fan issue

I had to put in a new sensor a couple of months ago...It cost $80 for the little bugger...When I put it in (after having the rad. drained), I was putting in the Light sensor and it snapped off...I couldn't believe it...Dealer wanted around $70 for it, but I purchased on Ebay for $4.99 plus shipping, used of course, but it worked like a charm...Good Luck, Jody

What did you clean the contacts with?

Yeah, something you don't have to deal with on a Harley.
Good one CJ. I had to back up and take that one in again.

I use Electrical Contact Cleaner. There are many makes available from automotive stores, sometimes WalMart. You can use other stuff but the real deal does not leave an oily residue and is neutral for plastics and vinyl foound in most wiring.

That is a switch not a sensor. The brass hex nut contains a bi-metalic switch, and there is no way to fix it. You can only replace it.

The last test is to drop it in boiling water with a ohm meter leads clipped on. These can and do fail commonly and it's no surpise to me it failed.

I bet there is an automotive counterpart. Isn't the temp of activation usually stamped on these switches?

Yeah. I've ordered parts from here: http://www.ronayersmotorcycles.com/Default.asp
and it's usually cheaper.
