Hi Netnorske!!
I did those trips back in the sixties and seventies on Harley 74s both Duo and Electra Glides. By my third trip to Acapulco I was tied up with a Mexican chic and gave up the bike for a Volkswagon beetle. So, after a thirty two year hiatus I'm just a newbie who loves flashing his maps.

Enjoy!!
Tom

Temporary Winter Hand Guards

Just returned home from a very chilly 60 mile winter ride! Bright blue sky with temps in the mid 30's. I stayed off the back roads for the most part as there are still lost of frosty spots around.

I wanted to test out these big temporary guards and have to say they worked great! Of all of my body parts that got chilled, my hands weren't one of them... :)! They really provide some nice protection from the wind. I imagine they would be just as effective in the rain. This is a two-thumbs up gig...but again...the credit goes to E.B. for turning me on to them!

If you go too fast with those things on you may get a little airborn....think the Dumbo ride at Disneyland!

Does anybody (North of Arizona), ride with heated gloves. The people I know that have them, say they work great. It's good to deflect the wind "before" it hits your hands.... even most fairings don't do much for your hands.

There are several good ideas here - I'm planning on making something similiar to the first pics, but larger, from an unused windshield. I plan on getting some of the stock shield brackets to make the hand guards as similiar in appearance to the rest of the front end as possible, will cut them to match the shield contours. I'll post pics. I just recently got my Nomad from VROC's Red Rover, and it's a world of difference from my old VN750. Not as quick, but basically a couch on wheels! :-)

Check with Joe (Chuckster) he made a set for me and I love them. He has refined them a little and should work great.

Come down to SEVROC or the kawanow national rally, I haven't seen Bob's bike since you modified it.

Did the 750 sell yet?

I bought Joe's (Chuckster) also...Great workmanship, fast shipping and they are functional...Gets a little chilly in South Dakota so I will have to look into the Walmart ones for additional warmth...Thanks for posting...Dakota

Something to considor in the colder weather is to put on warm gloves. I usually leave mine in the garage overnight, throughout most of the year, if you put them on cold your hands will get cold. I bring them inside overnight now and they will keep your hands much warmer a lot longer.

Warm gear helps tremendously. Something else I do is use chemical handwarmers. Just put one small one in the back of each glove and the difference is astounding.

Ahh, so you are a function over form kind of guy too Doc? I'm gonna try these out too. Save the $199 for the heated gloves.
