Crying Dead

Rode my 06 Nomad yesterday doing some slow speed practice. Parked the bike to clean out garage and when I cranked it to move it into the garage, turned handle bars to left and bike died. Does not turn over no lights no fuel pump whine. Turn switch off and needle sweeps but nothing else. Battery connections are tight but battery shows only 10 volts. I will put on charger and make plans to buy another. Ive always bought from either WalMart or Battery Source which I know are nowhere near the best. What is the best reasonable battery? Also, where is the 30A fuse that I need to check. Thx.

If the main fuse is the prob, what would cause it to go out?

It can be several things. or nothing obvious at all. And not exclusive to these bikes either. Check and clean all the earth straps. From memory, there is one on the starter motor, at the front left of the engine.. one at the back, next to the oil filter, and the one that goes from the solenoid to the battery. Take them off, and clean both surfaces with some sandpaper The connections where the fuse fits in the solenoid, should be cleaned too..I think there is an Orange relay, under the seat, close to the main fusebox, that might be responsible too..I always carry a variety of spare fuses, and have rescued 2 Z1000's that had the same problem. One of them was my brothers, that just died while we were out for a ride. Going by your reading of 10 volts, a new battery is needed too.

Yep! Now just have to clean/fix my turn signal as my right one seems to want to blink at odd times.

You say the bike died when you turned the handlebar full left, to me indicates a potenital wiring issue and not the battery. Charge the battery to full charge, then key on, move the handlebar straight and right, if the bike responds you have an indication it's the wiring. If the wiring is routed around the steering neck a bit tight, the forks going left all the time can pull and damage wires and connections.

My Classic would do some weird things like, turn signals quit working to the right. I dug into the wiring inside the headlight bucket and found some connection issues and failed wires. Corrected those and all is good again.

What andy said! Could be your ign. switch, plugs going to your kill button, safety switches for the clutch, a whole passel of crap goes to your handlebars could cause it to stop.
Tuurn your key on, start wiggling wires....once you wiggled the right one, she ought to come alive it its a loose, chaffed wiring.
Since no lights, check out the wiring going in and out of headlight bucket....I'm willing to bet that its one wire there close to the neck....
