Welcome from Northern California!
Make sure you take the Motorcycle Safety Course. Check into having the Vaq Ivanized for a better running bike. Take it slow to begin with and stay away from busy streets for a while.

Welcome to the World of addicts!
Keep your eyes posted on flea-bay and craigs list for chaps, riding jacket, helmet and gloves. The Vaquero is a great machine, when you find yours, it'll be a good day. Look at Ivan's ECU reprogramming to get the most out of your investment. Riding gear, start with more than you need, peel off what you decide you don't need. "Dress to slide, when you ride" and you will be better off for it! Congrats and best wishes...

All that, and you need a smaller bike to begin with.
Don't worry about "trends" and looking cool at first. Try the indestructible Honda Shadow 750, or the smaller Vulcan 800, and gain the skills and comfort level you need for the much larger Vaquero. You will enjoy it much more if you are not intimidated by the size and power of the Vaquero when you do locate one to purchase. And those bikes can be purchased and resold for nearly the same price within a year. The simply don't depreciate very quickly after a few years on the road. There is a reason that MSF uses bikes in the 250cc size range for training. Confidence counters lack of skill and hastens your learning.

Hello and Welcome from Ontario.
If you are in Canada Kijiji.ca is a great place to find used riding gear and motorcycles.

Welcome form Ohio. Smokier gave some great advice above. If you start with a smaller bike, develop a plan to because you will probably want to upgrade in mere months.
Good luck. |
