I'm very saddened

Well, fellow riders, it grieves my to say farewell to this awesome forum. Yesterday, a dog darted out right in line with my front wheel. As soon as I saw it, I began braking but to no avail. It was there before I could swerve, stop, or do anything but hang on and nail the pooch. My bike will probably total out with Geico. The biggest problem that's trying to end my poor wife. Over the past 22 years of riding, I've had 2 other minor crashes on two other bikes. She is always filled with anxiety every time I'm out riding, so yesterday's wreck pushed her over the edge with the whole bike lifestyle. I still cannot bring myself to think that this is the end of my passion for riding! So, if I vanish from the forum, u'll know where I went!! Thanks to u guys for all of ur input, suggestions, and experienced wisdom shared with me. So, stay alert, stay safe and keep riding into the wind!

Glad you are alright as far as injuries go. Hate it about the bike. Bike or no bike, You don't have to leave the forum.

People don't stop riding in cars over an accident. Learn from it and ride again one day. Heart attack could take you tomorrow. Just saying,,,,,,

Glad you are OK. Take a break now and go back riding when you are ready again, but stay here at the forum.

Speaking from experience, I was in a bad wreck back in my late 20's. Hit head on, guy was doing about 25/30 mph, I was doing about 25/30 accelerating away from a redlight, he came over into my lane. I woke up in the hospital a couple of days later.
I stopped riding about 5/6 years....then came back to 2 wheels. Gives you time to think about what you want to do....
In my case, I rebuilt my bike into a total custom.

Good luck with whatever decision you make .I was in a bad accident in my early twenties too. It took another 20 years before I got back on and that was because of family......they were not going to be happy to see me back on two wheels but surprisingly I didn't hear much about it from them.

Thanks for all of the feedback!! But for the record, I have NO FEAR or concern about continuing to be a two-wheel rider. I was really ticked off about the whole ordeal while I was still tumbling on the road!! If my bike were rideable, I'd have ridden it home. I'm not apprehensive at all about continuing to ride, I desperately WANT to ride NOW!! I don't see this bug ever getting out of my system!! NOTHING can compare to the love of being on the open road and I know that every one of you know exactly what I mean, there's nothing else like it. I'm hoping that a little time may settle my poor wife down and I'm on the road again!!

I had 2 accidents many years ago and our kids freaked out when the wife & I got back into bikes a few years ago. Convinced them that we were careful & that if the good lord thinks our time is up on this earth he will take us no matter what we are doing. We only live once, may as well do it enjoying our passions!

Well your first post made it seem you were giving up riding for good as your wife wants you to.
There is no need to leave the forum if you plan on getting back on a bike in the future.

Steve, you said it there; "passion for riding". Riding is a part of you like so many of us. It's not just a pastime.

Like other's I've had several scrapes over the years and almost lost my life while riding in the Yukon in 2015 but a life without riding would seem dull to me after almost 55 years of it. I'm too old to take up skydiving.

I hope you don't think I'm suggesting anything negative about your wife but it sounds so odd that she would ask you to give up part of your life that you love. After 47 years mine won't even follow me to the shop anymore because she sees every vehicle around me as a threat. And I know she worries about me when I head off down the road on one of my two wheeled, and now three wheeled journeys but she wouldn't think of asking me to give it up

I have to say that I've met so many guys in their 70s that look at my bike, tell me how much they used to love riding, gave it up and now regret it.

Many people think those who ride motorcycles and side hacks are nuts but we know we are just a different breed.

My hiatus from riding was not the fear from my side but the fear my family had, the worried that my family had. If it was up to me I would have jumped back on as soon as I was healed up.....and I did after awhile but not on my own bike without them knowing.

I think most family members and friends who do not ride and whom may not say outright to you about their concern for safety for you, but do worry. And even myself while riding sometimes I think what if ? But still if I'm riding and the road is clear - I push "RED" and full well know I shouldn't. And each and every time I ride my wife tells me to "Be Careful" but when we ride together I just poke along and have a great time. So I understand how your Wife must feel and you must too. It's just a matter of time for me as I am getting older -so how long for me I do not know. But memories of riding with friends the good times will always be with me.
