I've got a screw loose!
O.k. it's not really loose. Maybe missing though? Please take a look at the photo below. I've been battling an oil leak issue and just replaced my spark plug tube orings. They were definitely bad, but not sure the complete cause of my issue.
Right by the crank case breather hose is a screw hole. It's threaded, but there's nothing in it. Not sure what it's purpose in life is and whether it shook itself out and is supposed to be there, or nothing to concern myself with. Does anybody know what this is for if anything. Or maybe check your bike and see if you have anything in that hole, or if it's empty like mine? Can't get a good look inside to see if there's a bottom to it. or if it goes through.

I just went out and took a look , mine has that exact threaded hole . I haven't had any issues with my bike so I'm thinking it's nothing to worry about .
Like you , I'm also curious is to what it's for ... |

Was no problem . I also found a thread on another forum that a guy with a 2005 nomad had the same question . Someone told him it might be an extra from the factory .
Hey ! now we have another threaded hole we bolt more bling on to !!! |

Does the motor still leak oil, or did the o rings cure the leak. If its not dripping I'd say your done. Sometimes the cam plugs seep oil as well, give them a look.

I wonder if a guy could use it as a mounting point for a REALLY LOUD air horn. You know, one that sounds like a train coming! Just thinking out loud...

I think we discussed this hole a few years ago, and the general consensus was that it must have been used in conjunction with another point for lifting/placing the engine.
It sounded good at the time..............

The general consensus is that this is the culprit (crankcase breather to dog bowl) and that this little dude will fix it. Whatever it is, it seems to be spraying the check valve for the carburetor pre-heating deal. I usually find the heaviest concentration of oil on that thing/area. Then again, it only does it when riding the thing so it's blowing around and hard to pinpoint just where from.
