cam chain extenders

My local dealer in Nova Scotia advises that the Canada part number for the extenders is not a valid number, and that there is no number for extenders. Also, they will not install them and they advise not to use them. I have just over 100K on my '01 Nomad FI and will get this checked out elsewhere.

There are thousands of people who have fitted them, that would disagree with him.Not sure i'd take his advice on anything else either.

How do you check the chain to see if you need the extenders. I have 23k on my 00 and would like to check it out.

I got my extenders from a Kawasaki dealer in Guelph, Ontario.
That was in 2010 though.

Checking them is about the same amount of work as changing them, so I'd order the Chuckster's extenders so you're ready to get 'er done.

I changed mine out at about 37k miles, not really knowing for sure if I needed them until I removed them and saw the travel was all the way out. It's fairly easy, just take your time and reassemble using the method described in the Gadgets thread.

Hi
I did not removed the intake crossover. I cut an Allen key. It's more complicated but you get there. :)

I did not remove the crossover tube either on my 05.
A set of ball ended Allen keys makes the job easier.
