Worth the Cost?

Figured I could get a little more perf. Theres a bottleneck in the adaptor, which chokes down the airflow some. So, for a 1500 it would be ok I believe. The Chucksters air kit is awesome though....its actually a performance gain because I can feel it.
The 1600 motor (2006 nomad) in the (2001 nomad) 1500 is almost a bolt-in, (they pretty well cover it in the engine swap thread) but I installed the Big Bore Kit, you have to have the cams sent to thunder for them to modify. I purchased a set of barrels (had those bored and honed to fit the pistons) with heads from a guy who trashed his bottom end, so I sent those in (the cams). Thunders kit comes with pistons/rings/wrist pins/circlips, cams, headgaskets, etc. The midrange is awesome. On takeoffs and on rollons with the Harley 110's beside you, theres no comparison. The frontend gets extremely light! The Harley might walk away on topend, though, haven't tried that nor do I want to. She runs to 105 really easy, and still pulls strong and quick! Only did it once, liked to scared the hell outta me....
You cannot hit the throttle really hard on a wet street, or cruising down a wet highway, you'll loose it....
Just wondering on the Big Bore Kit.... I checked into buying or having them install the kit on my 06 1600 Nomad. Them installing, not sure the bike is still worth that much. Installing myself, not sure my confidence level is where it should be, and still kinda expensive. So, is there really a big performance gain, really? Also, what about the shaft drive, can it take the extra torque and H.P. ?

The 1600 had a good amount of pull from idle and midrange over the stock 1500
The 1600 with the thunder kit in it, performance wise....a friend of mine up in Tulsa has a Harley 110, he took my bike for a ride....was gone 30 minutes, he came back, climbed off mine and said....'Holy Shit! That thing pulls alot harder than that 110 in the midrange!'
Is there a big difference? Oh Yea! But I also have the heads/intake CNC ported.
My dads good friend did it, he has a racing machine shop, it cost me a case of beer, a box of cigars, a $35 steak dinner and $200 cash....
The 1600 stock pulled hard in the midrange, this thing will run up to the rev limiter like its running 75 mph.
That guy that has the 110, just doing 60-75 and hit the throttle, no downshifting, he fell back a hundred yards and can't keep up until about 100, he starts gaining on me.
At 105, its pulling like a stock 1600 is at 75 mph....

I would've gone way past 105 it I hadn't backed off the throttle....
So yea, its worth it....

Now, if you hammer on it, yes, there would probably be a failure in the angle drive bearings before the driveshaft.
I wanted and needed the extra passing power going around trucks and stupid people in cars....
I don't drag race my bike, but I want to pass with authority if I'm gonna pass a bunch of cars and a truck on the interstate.

I love my 1500, its fixed up just the way I like it. Instead of getting a newer bike to get more power, I went this route.
1600 motor-54,000 miles -$875
Thunder 1600 kit- $1000
CNC porting heads/intake-$300
Used 1600 jugs and heads-$200 = $2375
- VS-
Good used 1600 low miles with warranty = $2000
I also like working on my bike, too....my dad was a dealership Harley mechanic for 30+ years....

Its not if the bike is worth that much....
Ask the question is your bike worth that much to YOU?

My dad passed away some years ago, I road a 80's model Harley ElectaGlide, which he built for me. It had the mukuni carbs, sifton cams, and S&S 97" stroker kit....I rode it for almost 20 years.
As I've gotten older, all the shaking and the vibration, just can't hold up to it anymore.
The Nomad 1500 is a helluva lot smoother, vibrates a whole lot less, and is more dependable, handles better....
I love my 1500, I now have no need to change....
