Hi guys, this is my first large bike.It did not come with any manuals so its internet info for me,lol. It belonged to the guys father,so I will assume nothing good about P/M. Any advice would be much appreciated. I was going to start with oil change,what type? Then coolant,which no one ever thinks of,type please? oooops, sorry,the bike..... 2000 Kaw Vulcan 1500 Nomad FI,only mod is V&H pipes. I seen air valves on the top of the shocks? I love this bike,the color,the way it handles and sounds.its like a caddy on the highway.
want to complete these tasks before I really ride it. Thanks ahead of time,Mike.

I'm in Missouri

If I were you I would start looking for a reasonably price manual on ebay. You will definitely want one if not now then later on. Stay away from any that are NOT the OEM service manual You can usually pick them up for around 40 to 50 bucks. In the meantime here is some reading for you. There are two modifications on the your Nomad you may want to look into. Cam chain tensioners and Clutch spring.

Oil, Rotella T6, 4.5 quarts, 5 if you use a longer filter.

That's too much oil for the 1500.

Ive never put that much oil in, it holds 3.3 litres with a new filter.

the 1600 only uses 3.5 quarts with filter do not know about the 1500 but I would ck before putting too much oil in or you will be using a turkey baster sucking it out or dropping the plug and starting all over. http://www.vulcanbagger.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=10178

Ponch, it's been a while since I had my 1500. Could swear it takes 4.5 quarts. Double check with the manual.

As per the label...I'll pour in 3.1L then start topping up to 3.5L. If I'm doing a normal oil change I'll drop the drain plug and pull the screen and let it drain while I go do something else, maybe an hour or so. Then it will take the full 3.5L. But doing a quick change, wait for the flow to go to a drip, it will take less, so pour in 3.1L and check the level, add as required.
As for metric as a universal measurement system, here in Canada the government implemented the metric system in 1970, 36 years later we still use both imperial measurement as well as metric. Our buildings were based on 4'x8' materials try using metric and you have a 1.2192M x 2.4384M sheet of wood...doesn't work.
Do you want to buy ground beef for $3.44/lb., or $7.58/kg, price is the same but for marketing it's more attractive to buy in pounds and ounces.
A 12 oz. beer, 355ml really!
And aren't speeds in the UK posted in MPH not KPH.
And you guys are driving on the wrong side if the road!!!
