Cracked trunk around antenna mount ?
Good evening everyone,
I recently acquired a Voyager 2010 and i love it! Plenty of power and comfort, even got to try the heated grip today out in canada weather. Yesterday i saw two crack on the trunk near the antenna base, when i removed the antenna for inspection the ABS from the trunk literally fell apart in multiple pieces and i ended up with a hole in the trunk. There is also two crack of about 4-6inch in the ABS. Very disappointed...it took me a good two hours to solder back and rebuild the ABS trunk. At least ABS is easy to repair. I soldered both side where it was not visible and only the inside where it was apparent as i didn't want to do a paint job now, ill keep this for the winter. I also reinforced the ABS around the Antenna post. Rode the bike for four hours today and all is good and solid. I am trying to understand if this could have been due to vibration, someone bumping in the antenna, vandalism or whatever. I am extremely careful with it and always handle the top case with caution. First I have heard of this happening to anyone. So I vote someone hit it or vandalism or something like that. There are a good number of these bikes out there with a lot of miles, so vibration is out and I doubt you did it.

There have been instances of the front fairing cracking but this is the first case of a trunk cracking caused by stress that I have heard of.

May be a long shot but I wonder if the previous owner used the antenna to fly a flag from it.

Having a Nomad I have no experience with Voyager trunk issues, but I just want to welcome you to the forum from the West Island.

If you need liquid ABS you can get it at any home improvement store in the plumbing section or you can get a small sheet of ABS from Amazon, cut it in to small pieces, and put it in a jar with acetone. It will turn to a liquid/paste but must be used right away.

Thanks everyone for the responses, it is reassuring to see it seems to be an isolated issue.
It´s already partially repaired, i simply diced an ABS pipe i had and used it to solder things back in place. Will post pics eventually. |

Those pictures almost look as if the antenna area was hit by something, or the antenna hit something and overstressed the mount, either that or the previous owner tried something and removed and replaced the mount and overtightened the bolts. I have a 2010 and have never seen that, I have since gone to a hidden antenna, but the mounting holes and area where the antenna was, had no cracks or other issues that I could see.

Could have been a passenger swinging their leg over the trunk to get on and hit the antenna ?
Or the bike in an enclosed trailer with not enough room and the ramp door hit it ? |

Indeed it is broken, i only saw a crack behind at first. I took a few days to look into it and then saw the disaster. I park downtown often, i am thinking someone must have bumbed the antenna.

I am thinking that as well, probably some cage backed into it and took off.
