I was raised in the country. We washed up before meals, after using the restroom, and then before bed. The rest of the time we were dirty, but it was honest mother-nature dirt from outside, not bacteria-laden dirt from countless people we didn't know containing every illness from around the globe. Now my wife and I primarily use the drive thrus and/or phone orders instead of eating inside, but germs have nothing to do with it. We have 2 kids under 3 years old, and don't want to ruin the dining experience for everyone else.
I agree that a lot of public places are dirty...shopping carts, back in the day the pay phones were nasty, door knobs, the pens attached to ropes at gas stations and banks, fuel pumps, debit card/credit card key pads, etc. But you can go WAY overboard by overthinking this stuff. Dirt and bacteria are everywhere and on everything. You can be OCD and use antibacterial hand wash every 10 seconds, or just use a few times a day. no matter how OCD you are, you are going to have to rely on your immune system to fight off the stuff you pick up from your surroundings. That said, I'll probably get ebola since I live 5 minutes from Dobbins AFB and be dead in the next 2 weeks.

Washing your hands after making a deposit is one thing, but being a germaphobe is another. I still like the bathroom doors that open out though. If you are that worried about germs, stay home or get yourself a plastic bubble to live in. This is why we have immune systems....

I agree with Bud on this one.....sure germs are everywhere and hard to avoid. But let's do what we can here folks. Wash your f**king hands after having a crap or a piss at least !!! Your pecker is clean??? How many guys touch that bathroom door handle that just spent the night with some sleeze bag ....do you think he washed up after that??
I remember one fellow at work [ a crack head at the time mind you ] came out of the crapper while I was washing my hands before lunch. He walked straight out of the washroom and went to a vending machine for a bag of chips and proceeded to eat them.

Washing your hands after urinating is one of the most back ass warred habits most of us to.
One of the cleanest parts of your body (for most men) is your penis. One of the dirtiest parts of your body are your hands. Both of these statements are proven facts for most men. Urine itself is sterile and can be used as an emergency disinfectant and is often referenced as such. So, what most men should be doing is washing their dirty hands before touching their clean penis.

A joke: Two guys are in public restroom taking a whiz. One guy finishes and starts to walk out. The other guys says "Hey, where I come from they teach us to wash our hands after urinating" The other guy responds "Well , where I come from they teach us not to piss on our hands"
BWAAAAHAAAAHAAAHA!!!! I work in a hospital and they have us trained to use one of the hand disinfectant dispensers located about every 15 feet no matter where you go. Good idea I guess but it's made going to Wal-Mart and such kinda difficult. If I get any more paranoid about germs I'll be like Howard Huges and have to wear gloves every wear. I'm not sure electronic toilet flushers is a good idea. What happens when the batteries die? Nothing! The turds just lay there for three days until someone finally gets around to changing them. ...and where was I when we took a vote to remove paper towels from public rest rooms? Hows a guy supposed to wash and dry his face with toilet paper?

I'm with you on this one, its disgusting to watch someone use the restroom and then walk out without washing their hands.
I work for a very large company and when I go into the bathroom near our department Im amazed at how nasty people can be. There is obviously one or a few people that find it amusing to flick their boogers on the wall. The cleaning crew will clean the restroom and over time the wall boogers start showing up again, and this is a company filled with adults, there isn't any young kids working there.

If you dwell on this you'll end up a germaphobe for sure. I have heard money is worse than escalator grab rails. All you can do is try to wash when you can. They've done studies in supposedly sanitized home kitchens that show more germs on the counter than the floor. Worst I've seen in a can was at a football game with some guy pissing with his beer on top of the urinal while he's chomping a burger. Speaking of, let's not get into slaughter house burger shovels, or field level lettuce washes, etc......

Spending some time in the sandbox does wonders for such worries ...
For those locations lucky enough to actually have a portable potty, they would put sanitizer dispensers on the outside of the door. And if you were unlucky enough to go in after a visit by the locals, you felt more like needing a hazmat suit! Back in the good ol' USofA, I practice what I believe to be reasonable care. What I find amusing is those folks that will brag about partaking in all manner of weirdness during sex, then freak out an hour later over scrubbing up after a tinkle! ![]()
