Speedo needle does not move

What is the purpose of the speedo needle deflection when key is turned on? More importantly what does it mean when it doesn't? This is on my 02 Nomad. Thanks

That's part of the self-test process when you first turn on the ignition.

You need to me moving for the speedometer to work.
It tells you how fast you are going.

Auto-start up calibration - no worries. When it doesn't scan? Dam electronics.
