Could it be the radiator cover rattling? Mine did that, stuck some foam insulation tape on the inside and no more rattle.

I forgot about that being a problem for some... that would be worth checking out.

Checked that, too. Nope, seems nice and tight.

Left side you might check the u-joint also possibly the bevel gear bearing. Don't know just throwing it out there.

What does a bevel gear bearing do? And, can it rattle? What do I look for when I open the left side engine cover?

It is going to be involved with your shaft-drive. U-joints definitely can cause a clack sound; along with a few others.

Bevel gearing transfers the power from the engine to the shaft-drive.

Since your shaft-drive is on the left side, it needs to be checked if you haven't. Start with the u-joint.

If your shaft-drive has not been serviced, it likely needs some attention at this point. There are those with far greater skill / knowledge on here for that than I would ever hope for. Information on shaft-drive maintenance is on here somewhere. Maybe on the "maintenance" board. Check there...

I saw this on another post - could it be the springs that go behind the brake pads in the caliper itself? Their whole purpose is to steady the pads. When you changed the pads did you notice them? Were they worn out at all?
(I looked in to pricing them too - they look like the same part, but one side is $5 the other $15? Kinda strange.)

92144B - Right Hand

Don't know if this is the problem, but it's possible.

Irate

Checked those springs when I replaced the brakes. They are OK. Looking like I'll have to take it in to the shop. Hate that when I don't know what needs to be fixed.

Any ideas, or do I just ride until something breaks?
Whatever it is, that's not a good idea. Many of the other ideas make sense to check. I found my rad cover was rattling some and did what Cactus Jack did. I have also found a a clank/rattle in a friends bike and it turned out to be a loose fender bolt so there are lots of possibilities.

I have twice checked my drive line and found no problems but going there to check it out is a good thing at this point.
