Ordered Commander II's

For $284 from Motorcycle Superstore... front and rear. My local dealer (Kaw / Honda) wanted $280 for rear, and $85 to mount. When I said no wonder more folks are going darkside, I got an ear full about how dangerous it is and they won't mount them. Fine, but I am not paying you $280 for a tire I can buy online for $180. Well, we won't mount tires not bought here. I said OK I will decide what to do and get back with you, and they said their cost was $188, but could go $212 for me.

This place irritates me every time I go in, and even though it was nice to drop the price of tire $68, I guess still irritated that they were willing to charge so much more / had that much room to drop. So I came home and ordered online.

Another dealer (Yamaha, Victory) half hour away doesn't care where I buy my tires, but does cost about same to change. I am also going to check with another local shop that just opened for mounting.

I have 7k on my Vaquero, and the rear is pretty thin, while the front actually seems to have a lot of tread left. But I don't think it could get close to getting though the 4000 mile trip planned for early august, so probably will replace both at the same time within the next two weeks.

Changing and balancing tires is a really pretty simple job, I started years ago because I'm cheap and have several bikes :-) If you lived closer, I'd give you a hand. Maybe someone near you could show you the ropes, save you a few bucks, and ya get the pride in doing it yourself ta boot.

Just curious, is a rear tire wearing out at 7,000 miles on a Vaquero common?

Well, I wished you lived closer too :)

My son has changed his own tire on his Honda XR650 Enduro, but having seen his process I am not cutting him lose on my pretty new bike LOL. found a start up shop nearby that will do both tires for $100, planning to use him. If I owned a jack, my son and I would probably take wheels off and save more $$$

Don't quote me, but I think from what I have read on multiple forums, the rears have been worn out between 5000 and I think 8000 is the highest seen on the stockers.

If I was coming up to Warsaw any time soon, I'd let you borrow my jack. You know Harbor Freight always seems to have the yellow jack on sale for around $60.

I have been keeping an eye on that, but lately haven't seen it cheaper than $90... and I hate paying 90 when I know, well assume, it can be had for 60 at some point LOL

I recently put a Commander II on the front of my Voyager. They follow road snakes like crazy. Very unnerving. I have a Commander II to put on the rear tire in my garage.

I I put 9650 on rear tire and 12645 on front 2011 vaquero. Very concerned about the
commander that follows road snakes. Just had one put on front

keep me posted on your tires. i put a set on my vaquero and the front developed a off throttle slow to medium speed wobble when you take your hands off the bars. i have played with air pressures and it may be a little better but not much. keep me posted.
