You just on your first deer strike Caper? I'm just on my second one and other people I've met have done 3 and 4! We got a long way to go.

I hope you get good enough to get around soon. I'm a couch potato but it's torture if you have to be one. I cracked my left heel bone and stretched ligaments. I hobbled around for a few weeks and limped for a year and a half. Oh Yeah, and got me another Nomad 40 or so days after the wreck.

That may have been a message from God that it was time for you to get a Vaquero or Voyager or something. He wanted me to get another Nomad. I hope I got the message right .........wrecks hurt!

Sorry to hear about your accident. Be thankful your were not injured worse and heal up soon. My doc told me after I wrecked in March that we old timers take a bit longer to heal. Godspeed!

Caper, After the deer hit me {not the other way around} I got the bike fixed and I sold it. Mainly because I didn't want that bike any more. I thought I'd just buy another bike. Then my wife said she wasn't getting on another bike again,.... Then judygirl thought we should take some European vacations for a year or two, instead,...which I liked the idea of. After about 4 yrs. judygirl couldn't stand to see me ogling motorcycles every time I saw one and when she came into a small inheritance she told me to just go buy the bike I wanted. That was it. We still do the European vacations but I'll never give up the bike and judygirl wouldn't want me to. It makes me happy. And you know what the women say,..."happy hubby, happy home".
I hope that if you give yourself some time and reflect that you'll come back to motorcycling. You'll recover from the knee injury and be strong enough not to worry/concern yourself about it.

This is just my thoughts. Good luck Caper.

I SO understand what you are feeling. I have ridden motorcycles for over 25 years and have never had a major incident until this year. In March of 2012 I upgraded my ride to a 2008 Nomad that only had 542 miles on her...not even broken in yet. I guess it was just too much bike for the original owner. Anyway, on April 20 I was entering a curve about 2 miles from my house and went down. To this day I still don't know what happened or why, but after I was thrown off of the bike, my body slammed into an oncoming vehicle. At that point it was lights out until I regained consciousness trying to get out of the road. To make a long story short, I spent 6 days in the Progressive Care Unit with a broken collarbone, 9 broken ribs, and a broken bone in my knee. The bike is fixed and ready to go but the only thing I have been able to think about since the accident was how soon I could get back on the bike. This week I faced my fears and rode for the first time since the accident and although a little painful, I did it. (I don't think I would have disclosed the fact that I am on some pretty heavy narcotics for pain and that I still have to sleep in a hospital bed every night if I had been stopped for some reason.) Hang in there my friend and give it some time before you call it quits. Once it's in your blood, it's there forever.
