What are YOUR thoughts?

Im in the market for a used motorcycle of the Nomad variety, however they are really scarce in my area. If you hear of one for sale you had better be on your toes or its gone. There is a local dealer that has an 07 for sale, but it has 66,000 miles on it. Owning a bike with that kind of miles on it is not foreign to me but purchasing one is. Most of my previous bikes have seen at least that many but I have been the one racking up the miles. I know that maintenance, both required and preventative, is key to longevity. The problem is i dont know if the previous owner subscribed to the same philosophy. If he/she did 66k is merely the begining, if not it could be close to the end. The dealer has no records for the bike. It looks, sounds and rides good am just unsure of the miles. What are YOUR thoughts. should I hold out for a less used one or at least one with service records or go for this one?

First, let me say welcome from Nebraska.

66K on any bike and not knowing the service or maintenance recored would spell "no" to me.

Thats a lot of miles... Even if it were $4000 I dont think I would touch it...

Id rather have a 2001 with 30K then a 07 with 66K..

Check out craigslist.. http://jonesboro.craigslist.org/mcy/2832030573.html Not sure the miles on that.. not bad price $4000--- $3600 is better

http://fayar.craigslist.org/mcd/2865967028.html 2003 $4500 not bad if miles are fair...

Thanks for the welcome usranger. Ive been lurking in the shadows for a little while and figured it was time to "jump in". I lost my previous ride to the economy hiccup a couple years ago and am just now getting to where I can pursue another. Everything about this bike, except the mileage, is saying "buy me" . I just cant get past the mileage w/o records. I guess i just need to hear it from others that actually own Nomads to get me past it .

Without knowing the history, I'd be very hesitant to buy anything over 20K miles. Nomad have good engines, and I'm sure it has thousands of mile more live, but there will be other bikes.

Watch Craigslist and don't be afraid to travel a couple hundred miles to get the right bike.

talk to the dealer maybe he will stand behind it with a warranty. or at least give it a full maintenance check .
I would think that someone who put that many miles on there ride sense 07was a serious rider. People like that take care of there equipment

patience is not one of my strong points. weather is getting right around here. ive got a Street Glide at my beckon call and i put alot of miles on it last season. thats been my scratch when the riding itch hits. however its still not MINE. heaven forbid something happening while im riding it, friend or not it would be a bitter pill.

I'm diggin that color green btw.

Welcome to the forum.
'07 Nomad with 66K, what's the price?
Is there a 3 month 3K mile warranty?
If the price is right I would buy it. Cheap! But I've also bought a few that were in nasty shape and made them mine. Most were never a problem and one was a bad choice.
That dealer is going to have a hard time selling that bike with high mileage and no records. Beat him up, as he didn't give much for it to begin with. I would guess he allowed no more then $4500 for the trade and probably less. Offer him $4250 cash and see what he says.

If a bike has a lot of miles the owner probably took care of it. I have over 92,000 on mine ans will ride it anywhere. If the price is right high miles wouln't bother me. You just need to look at all the common issues to see if they were a problem. On a Nomad some common mechanical issues are cam chain extenders are needed, clutch spring may be needed, swing arm or steering bearings need grease, check drive shaft u joint for slack, tire condition, worn out kick stand pivot, cam plug oil leak. They are great bikes and good maintenance will keep them running a long time.

Here is a couple in Central Texas:

I bought one Nomad with 8,500 and my other had 13,000. Zoom has pointed out the areas that have frequent maintenance issues. I would add to look over the gaskets at the base, cylinders and rocker covers. Use a good flashlight to follow and the gasket seam and look for any oil.

I'm in Cabot AR with a 2006 for sale 24,000 miles, priced below book.

Headlight modulator
Oversize lexan lowers
Cadman Air intake mod
Power Commander III
Road House exhaust
Wompus rack with color matched 84 venture trunk
Kuryakyn Grips with throttle boss
Kuryakyn Highway pegs
Kuryakyn Hypercharger with stinger trapdoor (not mounted)
J&M CB/Intercomm with weatherband, two helmet headsets
Chrome saddlebag rails
Dunlop Elite III tires front/rear with less than 1500 miles of wear
1 pair of saddlebag liners

Adapter to raise and tilt passenger floorboards, easily restored to original position

Now for the bad news. There are two scuff marks a bit larger than a dime on the rear fender below the taillight. On one of my last rides the turn signal mounting bar came loose and scraped the fender. The bar and lights are undamaged and have been securely remounted.

If you're interested call me at 501-590-7370.
