White crap on the sidewall of a NEW tire

Hi all,

I was able to FINALLY mount my new tire on the rim. There is WHITE CRAP on the sidewall and I have use soap and water to get it off and it won't. Any suggestions?

Also, there is some rust on the axle. I was going to use a wire brush to get it off and then grease it. Is that what I should do?

Maybe try a scrub brush and old dutch. Wheres the rust on the axle Rhys, outside the greese seals, or some where inside? With shafts etc that have a bit of rust on them I usually wet sand with oil and 600 or so grit paper.

I wish . No, I would not purchase a white wall. I have enough trying to keep it clean and sparkly never mind cleaning a white wall.

It is on the axle itself. I think because the front wheel has never been replaced until now. 40,000 KM on the front. It will be interesting to see if the new tire lasts that long.

If that is true, then that is amazing mileage for a tire.
Cleaning the axle with wet sandpaper and oil should take care of the rust unless it is really rusted and pitted.

So a penguin is driving down the street, and his car starts to make a funny noise. He drives into a garage and asks the mechanic to look at it. The mechanic says it will be awhile, so can he leave the car? The penguin says "yes" and walks down the street to an ice cream parlor. About an hour later the penguin returns and inquires about the problem. The mechanic walks over and says "looks like you blew a seal". The penguin replies, "no, it's just a little ice cream".

What are you saying, he ran over a penguin blowing a seal with his new front tire?

WD 40 should get the white stuff off the tire. Also should work on the rust if used with some 0000 steel wool.
