Before I can get too serious about the upcoming riding season, I had to take a little time to enjoy one of God's greatest sport fish. This big natural-born (native) steelhead was the biggest I have caught in awhile. It was one of eleven or so we hooked over two days in late March! Just another reason why living anywhere but here in the great Northwest would be out of the question for me.... ;) . We enjoyed a couple days on one of Washington's most remote coastal streams....and reaped the rewards that come with the seclusion!

I used to be a avid trout fisherman but havn't been now in over 15 years or so. The streams around here are so crowded that your literally shoulder to shoulder in any good pockets along the creek.
If your lucky enough to have permission on some private lands your able to beat the crowds but Im sure they are getting hard to find as well.

Hatchery fish go on the grill....wild fish are for thrillin', but not killin'. They need to spawn and perpetuate the species.... ;) .

Wow, that is a beauty of a fish, Kris! I have never fished in the Pacific NW, but it's on my bucket list to do someday. Thanks for the picture.

That's a nice fish, Kris! I was an avid fisherman when I lived in Utah. I caught a lake trout that big once, and several catfish in that size. That's a beauty.

That's a NICE fish. As big and bigger than many of the specs we get from our southern bays... Congratulations. Best Salmon I ever ate was a 25 pounder that went from Lake Michigan to the grill in 30 minutes flat. Fed all the in-laws at once.

Here's a question from a dumb city slicker. How do you tell the difference?

It's really easy. See that rounded (adipose) fin on top and just in front of my right thumb? Those get clipped off of hatchery fish when they are tiny, so if the fish you just caught has one.....they are a natural born (wild) fish.... :).
