I took that situation into consideration and the spikes stop half way so the back is clear. That way there's no risk of impalement.

Your eccentricity is not what I expect from Texas--but I was stationed in San Angelo only for a couple months. If you were bedecked with rattlesnake hide or scorpion tails, that would more closely fit my preconceptions.
