Newbie ? don't think so Pal. Been riding since 1972. Owned more bikes than you ever will. You talk about name calling. But post that I'm an asshole ? Sounds like a hippocrite to me. You have a bunch of backyard mechanics who don't know shit. One rocket scientist claimed there was no front bevel bearing. And another say "it's definately an issue due to low oil ?After you've raced 2 seasons 1/4 mile NHRA at New England Dragway. And 1 season Moto Gp at New Hampshire Speedway then you can match knowledge with me. Mas Tequila understand Spanish ? How about Maricone ? Take your own advice.

Somewhere, either here in Florida or back in NC.

I'll try to find it this weekend, then post it.

The one that usually goes bad is available from MaKaw. The part number is 92045-1165.

The one that they don't sell individually is pressed onto the driven gear.

If that one is bad, very rare, just use a bearing separator to remove it, then take it to a bearing distributor and they can match it.

As far as the 92045-1165 goes, take it or the number on the bearing itself to the bearing distributor and save half or better off the price. And they will have it in stock.

SKF 6305C2 is one of the part numbers for a local bearing.

Front Bevel Gear Project Successful!

Helloi All,

I am new to this forum and actually ride a Vulcan 1600 Classic, but the information I needed came across in this forum for "Baggers." My post here is to say thank you to all who have posted very valuable information on the front bevel gear bearing issue!

So, my Classic has 45k miles and I recently began noticing the tell-tale sounds that are commonly associated with this problem.

So, as a police detective, I "research" and "investigate" and it is here that I found the information that I would use to repair this myself. Basically, all of the information posted turns out to be right on!

Using the instructions found in here and in the service manual, I took my time in disassembling the components necessary to get the front bevel gear case off, and in the process, found that the u-joint on the drive shaft was seized, so I actually had 2 problems which may have been related to each other.

I took the gear box to a Kawasaki dealer where one of the owners is a former co-worker of mine and the service manager there and I had him rebuild the gear box for me and I ordered a drive shaft off of ebay for $20. (Kawasaki wants $411 for a drive shaft and says the u-joint is not serviceable).

During this process, I took the time to flush and change all fluids, changed brakes, cleaned all sorts of stuff not normally accessible, and she's got new tires, too!

Put it all back together just the way it came apart (no parts left over!) Went for a ride and all is smooth as silk!

All in all it was a success and the bike is ready to do another 45k!

So again, a sincere thank you to all of you who contributed information on this issue that truly helped me do this on my own and I saved a HUGE chunk of money in labor costs and I learned a tremendous amount about my motorcycle in the process.

Y'all ride safe!

Chris.

There are some on You Tube. It is a big job though. Seems to be a common problem. I don't understand why they did not have a recall. Don

I haven't come across any yet.

It's not a difficult process just time consuming.

Give me a call @ 5612103399 and I'll try to help guide you through it.

I just did another one about a month ago.

I'll get the number off the bearing, it's at my warehouse, this evening.

You can save a few $ by getting it at a local bearing distributor instead of ordering from MaKaw.

You will need to order the gasket.

Other than the bearing and gasket all you'll need is some RTV and your choice of oil and you may as well change the filter.

The main pan at bottom of the bike which houses the bolt that we unscrew for our oil changes. If I can find the pic the dealer sent, I will try and post it tomorrow. Btw, thx for responding.
