I need some parking lot practice!
OP, I can turn a Nomad as tight as it will turn (on my good days I can). But to master those police competition exercises, you have to go from turning one direction, to the opposite direct fast. If you do it at what is regular speed for me (figure 8 type speed) you will use up too much room and travel too far in the transition.
I'm curious if it is easier to go from lock to lock on a Road King. It seems to take a lot of effort on my Nomad, but I never noticed in the exercises I've done. I only notice working with him and needing to step it up a notch. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

These photos illustrate what I'm talking about.
Notice in the first photo he's turned all the way to the left from the drivers point of view. And by the last photo he's all the way to the right. If you take just a fraction too long, the tire would be hitting the cone in that last picture. Going in is the same, you have to go from all the way one direction, to all the way the other very fast. I'm not used to having to make such rapid steering inputs, and any time lost in the transition moves you too far distance wise to make the turn. |

I think its really good to see someone under full control while doing slow manouvers. Not too many riders are good at it, Including me :( I need practice. Thanks for the topic, its a good thought!

Dan... you are having too much fun on the Nomad!
Did some figure 8's in a riding class I took earlier this year and was amazed at being able to do full lock to lock turns in it. Not likely as tight as the ones he had set up for you two but the Nomad is nimble way beyond my expectations, and the class was HUGE on building some confidence. A rub on the Wolverines who were unable to keep up when we followed him through the whole course at the end, as us two Ohio riders were on his tail the whole way. Psssttt... I take no responsibility for the A$$ kicking we are about to get this weekend GO BUCKS! Login or Register to Remove Ads |

So I'm guessing 20' diameter with a 6X6 entrance.....?
I find myself scooting up toward the tank in the tight moves to help with balance and I wish my feet were under me more. It helps that my bars extend back more than normal for my short arms. I think the RK is shorter in lentgh with a shorter rake. Rake may not be the term I'm lookin for.

Sweeeeet! Don't forget to tell him you have 1500 or so friends on Nomads that would appreciate his time, too.

It's 18 and 5 20 and 6 I could do no problem. Going from 80 or 90% of a bikes capability to 90 to 100% is much harder than I thought it would be. |

Thanks Dan. The entry looked a little small for six but Our parking spaces are generally about 9.

For the new guys who haven't seen any of my videos, this is what I can do no problem.
But going from that to the key hole exercise is so much harder. I didn't anticipate that next level being so difficult. |
