Disable the turn signal auto cancel feature

I use the turn signals to obey the law. But if I actually need somebody to know I'm turning so they don't kill me, I make a hand signal. Somehow I think they seem to notice that more.

Well, except at night, but I don't ride that much at night

I'll bet that most people that got there licence the last 15 years or so don't know what hand signals are anymore.

Judging by the way people drive on the road, whatever they learned to pass a test was quickly scraped and replaced with fresh instructions on how to hold a cell fone and eat a cheeseburger while driving. :(" title="" border="0"/>

Well, even if they don't know what my signals mean, perhaps when they see some lunatic waving his arms around they'll take some notice of me and try not to run over my a$$.

It couldn't hurt, right?

My Nomad is an '07, and the turn signal cancels itself after about nine seconds, whether I've turned or not. I tend to engage the turn signal a reasonable distance from my intended turn, but I find I have to continually re-engage it, as it always cuts off after the nine second period.
Hey smokey! Give this a try. While stopped, turn on your turn signal and just sit there. The light should keep flashing as long as you're stopped. If it goes off after about 9 seconds and you haven't moved it's defective. Take it back to the dealer and tell him to replace the Turn Control Relay.

Disable the turn signal auto cancel feature

Seems in Illinois, the Peoria area anyway, signals are totally optional!

I liked it when mine worked. It must be connected to the speedometer but my speedometer is a manual cable operated type. When my speedometer quit, I disconnected the cable and that's when I noticed the self cancel feature quit working. Maybe some of the wiring (which I thought was for lights only linked to the blinkers. I just figured it worked off funny magic I guess. Mine is a 2000 Nomad.

Yes, there is a wire going from the Turn Signal Control Relay to the speedometer. That is where the distance information comes from to cancel the turn signal.

Well, it looks like you have answered the original question on how to disable the self-cancel feature - just disconnect the speedometer! :) :) :)
