Really low MPG and other strange symptoms

If I have the V&H and the Caddmann Kit, and I turn off all the pots, will I have backfire? Based on what Doc has done, it sounds like it shouldn't be a problem. Unlike Doc, I have opened both sides. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Doc, you don't have any backfiring without a fuel processor? I have the V&H, Cobra Fi2000r and Caddmann kit, no backfire. Also, I was at 33~35 mpg before all the mods, and now I still have to check real good, but I think my mgp's are not much better. I would like to get about 40~42, any suggestions?[/quote:k3hh8f8u] Easy take offs and baby the throttle. Keep it around 60-65 max.......that'll get you some good mileage if thats what you are after.

The nice thing with the Cobra is you can turn the thing off! All pots to zero and you are at factory settings! You can trouble shoot the thing from stock settings ( ie: dirty injectors - Seafoam ets). Did you pull the plugs and have a good look at them?

I don't have a Cobra processor, but do have a TFI and getting 42-44 mpg. Your mileage is way too low. I assume its running way too rich. Turn it off, check the mileage, then start tweaking. Also, have you done the marble mod to help eliminate backfiring?

I would try the seafoam or lucas treatment first. I use lucas gas tratment/injector cleaner about every 4-5 tanks.
Sounds like you are sucking air if your backfiring on deceleration. On mileage, I only averaged 34 mpg on the Eureka Springs trip because i had not had the time to fine tune the fuel processor. I had the 3rd pot on slightly and it sucks gas. When I turned the 3rd pot back to neg.10% and 2nd pot to neg. 5% 1st pot +5%my mileage got up to about where i want it. So far my best tank mileage has been 49.5 mpg. not running over around 65 mph.I'm averaging 45mpg now and that's running around town and 100 or so miles on 2 lane backroads. I don't baby it much. Riding 2 up I get around 42-43. All in all, watch your 3rd pot settings because it will drink your gas. Oh, and I have V&N pipes, K & N hypercharger, and DYNO TEK fuel processor. The DYNO TEK processor let's you adjust your pots + or - 20%. and no computer required. It comes with a preloaded map and u just play with it untill your happy. BTW , I'm still shooting for 50mpg on 2 tank average. ride safe |

I noticed my mileage slipping a little, ran three tanks with seafoam, back to 43-45 mpg. Actually it is better than it was when I first bought the bike. |

I ran two tanks with seafoam and turned off the Cobra Fi2000r, and removed the baffles from my V&H.
I went to the Aspen Golden Cash Rally in Ruidoso New Mexico all last week. My gas mileage went from 33 to 41mpg. Also, the sound was much more better than I expected and I had a lot more HP. |

Blue Rebel, Is where you went about 7,000 feet high up on the dead flat plateu?
The only fuel modual that can forget is the PC III.. The others can't forget anything because they don't know anything. The others change the way the ecu sees things.

macmac, the elevation was pretty high, more than 7k ft I believe. I have turned my cobra completely off, so I'm only running the caddmann kit on both sides, and my V&H without baffles. No backfire, more hp and the exhaust doesn't smell as bad.
Even on my trip home from the rally, which is basically across the desert, I was averaging 41mpg. |
