Engine stops

I have read the previous threads back two years to search for this concern and have not found it and ask if anyone has experienced the engine shutting off on deceleration?
When it happened the first time I thought it was my error in being in too high a gear and the engine just stalling but it happened on two other occasions since and I was mindful of the situation.
Cruising for about an hour at 55-60 mph, slowing down to a stop, downshifting down 4th, 3rd, 2nd and then engine stops (10-15mph) with the clutch lever in. I let out clutch to 'bump start' - nothing. I pull clutch in and hit start button - engine starts and runs fine.
I do think the idle is lower after riding for an hour or more and wonder if coming down from cruising speed to a stop is somehow not being adjusted quick enough by the fuel injection module because the idle is too low. This is something I have run into with carburated engines and being an experienced rider is more an inconvenience but it could fluster a new rider at a bad time. (maybe me next time)
I have a 2007 1600 and bike starts and runs great otherwise. Is bike programmed not to be able to 'bump start'? Any input is appreciated.

I had the same problem. It would idle fine, but die when I pulled the clutch in to slow down. I increased my idle speed ever so slightly and that took care of it. Without a tach I had set it originally by guessing, so I assume that I simply had it a bit low.

It sounds like your throttle body needs a good scrubbing with carb cleaner and a toothbrush. After your done youll probably have to turn your idle way down again. Pat attention to clean well around the butterfly's.
There is a post in the tech boards that explains it a lot more.

The "stall" is a pretty wide spread phenomenom for FI 1600 Nomads. Keeping your throttle body clean and running a idle of 1050 - 1100RPM seems to help.

And no, if a FI nomad stalls, you can not bump start it. There is logic in the ECM that shuts off the injectors if the RPM falls below certain level unless starter motor circuit is energized. So when it happens grab some clutch and pop the starter and you will be back on your way.

Hey Guys, Thanks a bunch for getting back so quick. I clicked on the garage section and found out I wasn't mishandling my downshifts and haven't bruised my ego too bad. I'll get the toothbrush out and clean the TB and readjust idle. (I knew joining this forum was a good idea!!) JimS

My 1600 07 does that on occasion. Probably 5 times since I owned it.
Mine will also, skip. It is like the motor quits for a split second. Feels like it would if the shaft drive missed a gear. It has done that probably 4 or 5 times since I owned it.
I'm not worried about it ,just wanted to share

No Mitch , I'm pretty much stock except for removing the solenoids and debaffleing.
I figure if it runs decent stock, why mess with it.
Like I said, it has only done it a few times in the 3 years I have owned it so it doesn't bother me enough to worry about.
If pinging were an issue for me I would do the fuel processor.
Now going to NC for the National and touring some southern states on the way home I may have a problem with pinging, what do you think?

You may in the warmer temperatures and lower elevations. Do you use 93 octane exclusively and is most of your riding upwards of 3,000 feet??

I use 91 in the cooler weather but switch to 93 in the warmer temps.
Elevation? I have no idea :-[

Looks like I'm a little behind, but I too had the same issue a few times. A slight adjustment of the RPM's and it hasn't happened since. From what I hear and read, a TFI does a world of wonders for the Nomad. One day when I can afford it, I'll probably add it.

Bike is basically stock except for debaffled pipes.

You won't regret it. This should be the first performance mod made on a pre 2009 Nomad.

Jims you definitely need to clean the throttle body and the butterflies. Idle it up some if you still seem to have the problem of the bike dying.
