Gel vs Acid battery

I've used the gel batteries in the past and really like them. When my battery goes in my 2007 I will replace it with the gel. No problems with it.

I don't know if you can buy a gel battery you add acid too and charge Doc.... i wouldn't think so, but I don't know every bloomin thing out in the market, and never did.

I am left wondering what you bought. If it is old school it will work, that being acid and water battery type. Maybe in the kind of heat you have in East Texas it will work better than gel.

Its a standard liquid acid battery(maint. free) mac like you have in your Volvo probably. It sure beats my dead battery. :-)

I can't open the water acid battery in my Volvo, truck or van, but I know that type.

It will work fine.. and should for no less than 3 years. When and IF I still own my 06 nad, I will bite the bullet and buy from a dealer if i must to get the OEM battery, and if i can find the same thing on line to hell with the dealer..

There is one last chance i would go with Oddessy battery, but that could be over kill in expence and in time since that type is a dry cell and will out last even my Nomad.

A question... You added acid and then charged, to cap off the cells.. So are you saying the caps are made for one time install, and that there is no feasible way to remove them again?

YES, the caps snap down once charged and you NEVER remove them.

BD, I hope that was lysergic acid and not sulfuric... I never did read how to spell the first one...

Dennis, I don't know what the stock battery is, because I've never had it out. I just assumed it is a Yuasa? But you know what happens when you ASS-U-ME.
The Yuasa is supposed to be one of the premiere power sport batteries, and now-a-days, sulfuric acid is considered dangerous/hazardous cargo, so a battery if shipped, is supposed to have it's components packaged up separately. With a battery packaged like this, If you thought your battery was close to being dead in the water, you could get one and let it set on the shelf indefinitely until you needed it. uhmmmmmmmm that's a thought.
When it comes time to replace mine, I plan on using the same one that you got. BTW, were did you order yours from?

Powersportssuperstore.com right here in Austin, TX. the oem battery does not say Yuasa at all on it. It says Furakawa battery co. for what its worth. Its easy to add acid, chg and put it together. the hardest part is those 2 stupid nuts on the bottom of the bolt that holds the cables to the battery. They are just loose and fall all over the place when installing them. I finally made it though.

Doc, you should have put a little tad of grease on those nuts. It'll keep them in place, and also prevent corrosion.

Doc, I had the same darned issue when I put mine in today. Ended up using a flat screw driver to push the nut up and then screwed down the screw. Took me awhile because the positive terminal nut fell between the side cover and the battery box...always happens to me!
