Unique Stebel Horn Mounting
I know there is a thread about mounting these buried in the 1500 thread, but as important as sound is and being heard, I thought I would share my mounting solution to one and all. First, The horn is made out of plastic so I carefully removed the compressor from the horn. There are a couple of clips you need to pry up and the compressor slides right out. Next, get some 1 1/2 inch hose to fit around the frame and a 2 inch hose clamp. Cut a small slit at the base of the mount right next to the horn and slip the hose clamp through this slit. Now, mount the horn to the frame upright below the choke knob. Next, get a 3/8 hose coupler and about 2 feet of clear 3/8 inch hose. stick the coupler in the inlet hole on the horn and attach the hose. Now take the tank off and fit the compressor wherever it is out of the way and hold it in place with a pretty big wire tie so it doesn't rattle around. Wire the compressor as per the instructions, connect the hose into the compressor and reinstall the tank. The whole job took me about 45 minutes and the horn is as loud as it was before doing this mod. There is however about a quarter second delay as the hose fills up with air. The shorter the hose the less of a delay so experiment with different locations and get the hose as short as you can. It looks great in its new location, works great and looks as if it were designed to go there. I have only a couple of pictures of the finished product, sorry I didn't take any during as I had no idea how it turn out. Hopefully with theses pictures, you get the idea. Good luck and if you have any questions, please drop me a line.

Hey bud, that's great thinking. Mine is already mounted right now, but if I get bored this summer, I just might rewire to make it low profile like that. It really does look stock. Where did you put the compressor?

Just mounted it under the tank to the left side backbone and used some heavy duty wire ties to hold it in place. Looks like it was made to be there and has not moved a bit. No vibration, no movement at all.

Good job; I seen that Princess Auto has some Fiamm brand horn on sale, I think its 125 db so it should also get some attention.

My air horn is the Bad Boy from Harbor Freight. It's 119 dB. It's plenty loud and the way it's wired, one of my stock horns is still in the line and goes off as well. My horn is mounted on the right side using the bracket that was holding the stock horn. My compressor is mounted in the left side cover with a bracket. That left side cover is a busy spot on my Nomad. The relay for the horn is in there too!

I have a pair of Faimm airhorns on my 1600. The longer one is mounted across the frame behind the fan, using a mount attached to the square bracket shown in isaiahsdads first pic. The second shorter one is mounted the other way under the front of the bike, in the space behind the rectifiers and in front of the sump. The compressor is mounted in front of this, below the rectifiers. It does hang a little low. When all painted black, they are not noticable, and I still have the original chrome horn mounted in place, so nothing looks out of place.

Unique Stebel Horn Mounting
Ive had a set of Fiamm air horns sitting in the garage for a few years now, so today I decided to try and mount them. I made a bracket out of some aluminium I had to hold the horns on the LH side of the bike just below my ignition switch, that took a lot longer than I would have expected. Thats as far as I got today. I'll have to pull the tank to see if I can hide the compressor under it and wire it up. I'll try to get it finished before I leave on Friday, but that will be cutting it close.
