![]() Congrats to ya'll both.... enjoy your riding times together....my hubie and I always enjoy going out riding together - makes for a lot more fun when one says to the other 'want to go out to eat?' cause we go for a ride. It is ride to eat - eat to ride isn't it? ;)

I had a Suzuki Intruder 800 before the Nomad. Yes, we have women riding Nomads too. The C50 should be a great bike for your wife. BD beat me to the statement of you may have a permanent riding buddy or even a wife who wants to ride her motorcycle more often than you want to ride yours. Good luck with the search and purchase!

A twist I didn't see coming
SUpposed to pick up the bike Saturday assuming we can make the deal Saturday morning. The bike is on hold. We'll see how much the dealer wants to play. He is about $500 high right now.
One dealer has the custom in gray, but the wife doesn't care for the studs on the seat. The other dealer has the basic black (spoked vs mags) and is actually 500 higher than the other dealer with the "custom". I"m gonna try to play one on the other to see what happens. I've had pretty good experiences with this one dealer, but he's still higher than the other guy on a more basic bike. He's gonna have to move. I have written quotes, so we will see. |

Where do you live? bugman, a member here has a Volusia for sale (I think) and he lives in Florida. It may be a better option if he's close enough. Nonetheless, the first thing for you to do is to put a Cobra crashbar on it to protect the tank. Don't get the little OEM bars. The $150 Cobra will save you more that in the long run.

After four months, I couldn't be prouder of my riding partner - you are going to open a whole new chapter for you both to share.
Remember, go easy on the 'pointers' and let her figure it out, but be available for questions. She's already let you know she values your opinion. |

Again, Good advice. Crash bars were my first thought, even before the windshield. As for the Volusia in Florida, well, I'm in Minneapolis, so I'm guessing that might be a little out of range unfortunately. I'm not too charged up on a new bike for her, but honestly, I've been looking for a few weeks (without her knowledge) and the stuff that is out there is either crap or way overpriced.
As for the pointers, trust me, I learned a long time that it's either better to let her figure it out or better yet, ask her questions that make her realize the right answer for herself. We've done the MSF class, and been through several scuba classes together, so I've learned how to support from a distance in some cases. |

You might want to check volusiariders.com for the bike for sale thread, I think there are some in MN as seen here [url]http://mankato.craigslist.org/mcy/745664493.html this is listed on craigs list and he is a member of the voilusia riders and it is posted there.

Before I bought the Nomad, I had a Volusia (earlier C-50) which I really liked, BUT, if I were buying in that category now, I'd go with the Kawasaki 900. It'a a better looking bike and is more easily customized. Belt drive too. JMO.

We have 2 ladies that ride a C50 in a group that we ride with. They both seem to love it. Which ever way you go, your a lucky man to have such a fine lady who wants to ride with you.

Believe it or not, She really didn't care for the 900. We looked at both and she sat on each multiple times and for a good length of time. Apparently it didn't fit her and she kind of liked the idea of shaft drive. Another big factor is the appearance. I personally am a believer that you have to love the look of something just as much as the performance. When I owned a cruising sailboat they used to say that if you didnt' stop to look at it at least 3 times on the way off the dock, it might not be the right boat for you.
I think there's some truth in that for bikes as well. The other factor is that this is HER bike and while I can answer questions and give input, she is the one that needs to be happy with it. |

Good for you and your wife.
My wife is also looking into getting a bike but it will be awhile, probably after the first of the year for her because we have a waiting list for the rider courses around here. We have been to the Kawa dealer, Honda, H/D and we will visit the Yamaha dealer soon, along with a couple places that have used everything on their floors. She really likes the 900 and the Honda 1100 (VXR?) with the floor boards and such. We will see.
