I don't know what the Memphis Shades fits or does not fit. There are a lot of ads that don't have any idea what they're talking about. I saw an eBay ad for an exhaust that claimed it would fit a 1500 but NOT a 1600. I emailed them back and explained that both had the exact same exhaust. I asked if they meant it wouldn't fit a 1700. They said Kaw didn't make a 1700 Nomad and that this would only fit a 1500. I said 'ok' and moved on.

I think whoever wrote up the ad for the fairing at Memphis made a mistake. It should fit 99-04 models, then there is another fairing for the 1600's in 05- 08.
The difference is that the forks are spaced further apart on the 1600's

I actually called them and spoke to a person. Asked the question specifically. The answer was "No it won't fit a carb'd 1500 and we don't make anything that will".

Take that for what it's worth.

Did they give you a reason why they think it won't fit? Perhaps there's some tiny difference between the 2 and MS has such close tolerances in their mounting hardware that it makes the difference. Or perhaps (and more likely), the person you spoke with was just reading off the website.

But they couldn't tell you why specifically the fairing wouldn't fit.
I think they just want to cover their butts, they made the prototype on a FI bike and don't want the bother of dealing with something they are not 100% sure of.

Thought I'd update this just in case someone else wants to put a Memphis on a carb'd 99. It fits perfectly and took about 20 minutes to install. Apparently their application chart and the person I spoke to on the phone isn't up on their product. Thanks to Bud2rat for letting me know it fits.

Again just like the one installed on the girlfriend's bike, it came packed well, went on easily and had all the pieces/parts. Fed Ex attempted to destroy it by the look of the box, but everything inside was intact and unbroken. Mine didn't need longer bolts for the factory lowers so that must be a 1600 thing. The lowers didn't even have to come off. Although still clear in these photos, I did end up painting the lowers black so it would match better.

I modded the mounts just a little. Wanted it to lean back a bit more than the factory mounts would allow, so elongated the adjustable slot part just a bit with a die grinder.

Eventually I'll paint it to match, but for now the side covers, frame, parts of the motor, seat, backrest, tires, lowers etc. are all black so it kinda matches. I'm going to try to paint it myself (have all the equipment, but lack experience). Paint/materials will cost as much as the fairing itself did, so it's on hold for the time being.

Congratulations on the fairing, You should call Memphis Shades and tell them it fits perfectly on the bike.

I might just do that. They almost lost a sale because of their application chart and phone person.

Does that fairing have an inner with it?

No. It's really nothing more than a solid acrylic windshield in the shape of a fairing. It does shed wind like a fairing due to it's shape and IMO it works way better than the stock windscreen. Lots more stable when either following or getting hit with oncoming dirty air from a semi truck or RV (and we have lots of both in Arizona). Covers the hands too which is nice. Really struggled with the decision to go with this rather than a reckless. I don't want tunes so the gaping unfilled holes of a true fairing were not to my liking. Also reduces the weight on the front end. It's even lighter than the stock windshield and mount.

I have this fairing mounted on my 01 Nomad 1500. I also mounted the Hogtunes audio kit along with windshield mounted bags. It looks great. I love my setup.

Where are those photos man?

Just got back from a little 50 mile jaunt. This thing is so much better than the stock deal that was on it IMO. So glad I did this.
