Paint the inner fairing black or colour match
Although paint is a personal choice how would you paint your inner (that part of the fairing that faces you when riding, containing the instrument cluster etc) fairing? Other than personal preference there are some practical reasons for the colour choice. Looking forward to your responses. I know what all of you guys riding all blacks will have to say.

Paint the inner fairing black or colour match
My buddy with a Road Glide recently had his inner fairing painted - gloss black. He gets a lot of glare from it, I'd go with a flat finish. So would he if he did it over again.

Paint the inner fairing black or colour match
I didn't vote because what we did wasn't in one of your catagories. But since more that 50% of my fairing was black I painted the inside black with black mounting brackets. On the wifes Nomad since more the 50% of her fairing was red we painted the inside of it red with red mounting brackets. Both or our fairing are naked Harley fairings. I built the brackets for both myself.

Flat or satin black as gloss is way to much glare.
Painting it makes it easier to clean!

I didn't think about the glare. That is a good point to take into consideration.

Paint the inner fairing black or colour match
Me personally, I would paint it black. Not the glossy black (too much glare) nor the flat black (too hard to clean). I think it's called satin, or matte black. A word of caution though, make sure it's prepped well, or the paint will start flaking off after a while.

Paint the inner fairing black or colour match
I would probably go with black. You could paint it to color match the bike. Then rather than use a gloss clear coat you could use a "flat" clearcoat to reduce glare. Generally speaking it is not the color coat that adds glare/reflections, it is the cleat coat.

Paint the inner fairing black or colour match
I did not realize that glare would be a problem. I have seen a number of HD's done with inner fairings painted to match the bike, i.e., red, orange, silver, whatever, and thought it looked really nice, especially against a set of gauges. I guess how it looks and how it functions may be two different things.
If your bike is that two-tone grey or silver- not sure what it's supposed to be called- then there's the question of which of those colors to use, too. If it were me, I'd very seriously consider doing the inner fairing in a color other than black. Everybody's got black. |

Paint the inner fairing black or colour match
I originally painted mine the same red as the bike but after 1 year got tired of the glare of the shine. spring 09 i repainted it satin black and I like that much better.
I guess somebody could paint it the same color as the bike, base coat only, and put a satin clear on it. ![]() |

Paint the inner fairing black or colour match
When I painted mine I kept the same color inside and out....Green!
I have never had any glare come off of it, then again, when I mounted it I laid it down and as far back as I could for aerodynamics. .

I don't want to change risers or spotlights, and I doubt I'd be able to fabricate special brackets for the fairing that didn't look like crap, so perhaps this will not be happening in my future. |
