Metalic Ocean Blue Paint
I have ordered a new Hoppe, Quadzilla fairing for my 05 Nomad.
Next step is paint. I know I can get Metalic Ocean Blue from Color-Rite for $81.00 a 1/2 pint. I have heard that there paint doesn't match. :( On a crotch rocket web I found a formula using Toyota 8Q0 for a base, with a color formula to go along with the base for $43.75 a pint. Has anyone had any experience with painting there fairing. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

When I had the side covers painted to match my bike I went to the paint shop they had some portable type themajig that they put to the paint and like took a pic , then took it in and hooked up to computer, that told puter how to mix paint up to match.
Turned out perfect

The paint gizmo takes into account the paints age... it then tells the computer what that is, and will create a very good match.. Most often new paint won't match due to being aged in the weather.

I took a saddlebag into the PPG paint place and they scanned it, then mixed up a half pint of each color. It's a darn close match about 95% and the price was like 42.00 bucks for both colors.
You will be very hard pressed to match it 100%, that way would be repainting the whole bike to make it all match perfect.

Like Chuckster, I carried a saddle bag int the local automotive paint shop (just happened to also be a PPG). I got a quart of both colors (same as yours, '05 blue & silver). I wanted to have some extra, just in case, and I think it was around $120 for the paint and hardner, and clearcoat. It matches up pretty darn good. ;)

I think your on the right track getting it locally. I just painted a trunk for my 08 with paint from color rite. I was concerned with the Neutron Silver color because it was a 3 part paint. I didn't think I could match it. I didn't think the Blue would be a problem.
It turns out the Neutron Silver turned out great but the blue came out a little darker than the factory color, and I spent about $400 just on the paint. (primer, color, and clear). If I had it to do over I would get the paint at my local dealer for less $$. |
