Caper,
There has been a lot interest here in additional/alternate headlights, but I for one haven't heard of hid lights. Do you have a link or more info? |

Okay, got it. I just installed a pair of 50W old fashion halogen mini bullets along with a 100W headlight for all the light I need, although, the stators just barely can keep up. Do have xenons in my car though and they are impressive. The minis cost $16 including wiring and took about 10 minutes to install, not counting wiring. I suspect the hid bike lights are becoming popular in some places.

I replaced my H4 with a HID unit last year. I love it. Super-bright would be an understatement. No need for high beam. I beleive I paid about $70 for a car set and split it with another vulcan owner.
It comes in two pieces, the bulb and a ballast. The bulb fits easily in place of the standard bulb, you need to allow for the wires sticking out of the back. The electrical connection snaps easily to the existing wiring. I put the ballast between the struts behind the cover with some wire ties. You will notice 3 different kinds of H4 bulb, No High Beam, Halogen High Beam and one that pivots the main bulb to a different position. I got the Halogen one, but as I said above, you really don't need a high beam. Once you switch to high beam, you will notice the difference and go right back to the main headlamp. Stick with the "pure white", I think that is the 6000k color temperature. Once these bulbs are on, they only use 35watts, less than the factory bulb for 3x the brightness.
