THAT TIME OF THE YEAR

Hey Madders,

Remember, we are heading into that time of year when the deer and such animals will be making more of a showing on the roadsides. Couple that with it getting darker earlier and you need to be much more aware of what's happening up ahead of you and to the roadsides. Lately, I've been seeing many more wild turkeys running across the road and they can get pretty big up here in New England.

Neither are much of an issue here. Not many large game animals or deciduous trees in the Sonoran Desert. You might run across a coyote, though.

You could really skid out of control on a big greasy tarantula. ;)

It's more likely you'll see a jackrabbit.

Or a roadrunner...for you CJ, tumbleweeds are a menice.

Up here at night racoons, porcupines, and even beavers can be a problem. Elk and deer are definitely a problem on the mountain passes.

I've seen a bit of wild turkey, but they're all bottled up!

In the 9 years I've lived here, I've seen 3, maybe 4 roadrunners. Probably the biggest threat to riders here is the dreaded "Arizona Alligator". The rubber tread that peels off of commercial truck tires. They are everywhere. Not to mention the occasional step ladder or mattress.

Animals are definitely getting more active around here. It's getting dark now before 9 p.m. here, so my evenings are getting cut short. I don't like to be on the highway after dark, so the bike is in the stable once the sun goes down.
The cold grip of winter is not too far off. Yuck!

Boy, that's funny...they have those "Arizona Alligators" up here in Oregon. They must multiply like rabbits.

The highways and freeways are lousy with them here. I've always managed to avoid them. The thought of hitting 30-40 pounds of rubber at 70MPH doesn't give me warm fuzzies.

Whew! I saw the title of the post and I was going to come in and chew someone's ass. I thought you were going to say something about winter coming and snow. Oh crap now I just did it.

I think I will just say thank you for the safety reminder and now I will shut up.

I seen more porcupines dead this years then I did over the last several years combined.
There are more deer (which are always a problem) in the developments then in the big woods around here.
